Afro-Punk: The Rock is a 66-minute documentary film directed by James Spooner, exploring race identity within the punk scene across America and abroad. The film focuses on the lives of four people dedicated to the punk rock lifestyle, interspersed with interviews from scores of black punk rockers from all over the United States. The interviews cover issues of loneliness, exile, interracial dating, black power, and the dual lives led by people of color in communities that are primarily white.
Afro-Punk features performances by Bad Brains, Tamar-kali, Cipher, and Ten Grand. It also contains exclusive interviews by members of Fishbone, 24-7 Spyz, Dead Kennedys, Candiria, Orange 9mm, The Veldt and TV on the Radio, among others. In 2003 the documentary was featured at the American Black Film Festival in South Beach and the Pan African Film & Arts Festival, and won an Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival, an Audience Award at the Black Harvest International Film and Video Festival in Chicago, an award for Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking at the Roxbury Film Festival in Boston, and an award for Best Documentary at the International Jamerican Film and Music Festival in Jamaica.
Spooner, and many others active in the Afro-punk community, host regular concerts in the New York City area and elsewhere that feature Afro-punk identified bands. At these shows, the majority of the audience is usually made up of African American musicians, singers, songwriters, fans, activists, organizers, and artists who have distinct and diverse ties to the Afro-punk community.
Matt Davis, guitarist and vocalist of Ten Grand, died on August 10, 2003, shortly after his appearance in Afro-Punk.

On pourra légitimement s'étonner de la parution d'un live du Boss, si peu de temps après son (magnifique) DVD de "réunion" à New-York. D'autant que les anciens fans s'en rappelleront : il a fallu lui tirer les vers du nez, à Bruce, pour qu'il daigne sortir son premier live en 1986 ! La surprise est d'autant plus grande que la setlist, à première vue, a quand même certains points communs avec le live de 2001. D'où vient alors la différence? Elle vient naturellement de "The rising", ce fameux nouvel album enregistré avec tout le E Street Band, le premier depuis 1987. Ce genre de réunion à l'arrachée de vieux line-ups, en général, ce n'est pas toujours pour le meilleur ; mais ici c'est du Boss qu'on parle. Et l'homme sait depuis belle lurette comment bien faire les choses.

The film begins by listing the headlining acts of the Super Rock festival held in Japan in 1984: Scorpions, Whitesnake, and Bon Jovi, all of whom have gone on to sell millions of records, except one: Anvil. Despite their ambition, the Canadian band was unable to achieve the same level of success. Instead, singer and guitarist Steve "Lips" Kudlow drives trucks for Children's Choice Catering, delivering food to schools and institutions. Drummer Robb Reiner works in construction. But both would rather be playing on stage at the local sports bar to their small but dedicated group of fans, as shown during a show for Steve's 50th birthday party.

Avec la sortie de Masada Live at Tonic 1999, Zorn et le réalisateur Antonio Ferrera visent à remédier à cela en sortant un set particulièrement chaud d'une nuit particulièrement chaude dans l'un des principaux terrains de jeu de Zorn, Tonic à New York. L'un des attraits de Tonic est sa petite taille. L'amplification est complètement inutile, et bien qu'il n'y ait pas de détails techniques répertoriés sur le DVD astucieusement emballé, le soupçon est qu'il s'agissait d'un enregistrement très simple - un certain nombre de micros de salle stratégiquement placés au-dessus de la scène et trois caméras à partir desquelles Ferrera capture comme autant que possible de l'énergie vivante qu'est Massada.
