The film is split into two parts, with the first part released in Japan on August 1, 2015 and the second part, titled Attack on Titan: End of the World (進撃の巨人 エンド オブ ザ ワールド, Shingeki no Kyojin: Endo obu za Wārudo), immediately followed on September 19, 2015. The film was directed by Shinji Higuchi, written by Yūsuke Watanabe and Tomohiro Machiyama and stars Haruma Miura, Kiko Mizuhara and Kanata Hongō. Both films received lukewarm reviews at best and are blamed for slowing down the production of the anime.

Une créature géante se manifeste dans la baie de Tokyo, avant de faire surface et de terroriser la ville. A year has passed since the battle between Gamera and the Gyaos, and Japan has struggled to rebuild its cities in the meantime. In 1954, a nuclear bomb is detonated at the moment a giant creature emerges from the ocean. In 1999, Project Monarch scientists Ishiro Serizawa and Vivienne Graham investigate a colossal skeleton unearthed in a collapsed mine in the Philippines. They find two spores; one dormant and one hatched that made a trail into the sea. The crew of the space shuttle Churchill finds a 150-mile long spaceship hidden in the corona of Halley's Comet. The crew finds hundreds of dead, shrivelled bat-like creatures and three naked humanoid bodies (two male and one female) in suspended animation within glass containers.
