After being double-crossed in an arms deal by a gun merchant McDermott (Luis Dávila) from Columbus, New Mexico, a legendary Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa played by (Telly Savalas) and his US lieutenant Scotty (Clint Walker) decide to take a revenge by first raiding a US Army weapons depot in Columbus, and then seizing McDermott. The film is set in France during the Seven Years' War. As the film begins, Fanfan (Gérard Philipe) is a charming, attractive young man who is trying to escape a shotgun marriage. At this vulnerable point in his life, he is approached by the daughter of a recruiting officer, Adeline (played by Gina Lollobrigida), who tells him that if he joins the army, he will find fame, fortune, and will marry the king's daughter. Accordingly he joins the army, only to discover that she made the whole thing up in order for her father to get a recruiting bonus. Nevertheless, encouraged by a series of improbable circumstances, he accepts her prediction as his destiny. A series of events ensues which shows off to great advantage his athleticism and leadership ability. As the film progresses, we become aware of a developing attraction between himself and Adeline which however conflicts with his perceived “destiny” of marrying a king's daughter.

Joseph Rearden, a British Intelligence agent, arrives in London and makes a rendezvous with MacKintosh, the head of his organisation, in a discreet office located just off Trafalgar Square. MacKintosh and his deputy, Mrs Smith, inform him of a simple way to steal diamonds which are transported via the post service to avoid attention. This he does, apparently getting successfully away after punching a postman, and making off with the diamond-filled parcel. However, that evening, in his hotel room he is paid a visit by two Metropolitan Police detectives who have received an anonymous phone call advising them about the robbery. They are unconvinced by Rearden's pretence to be an innocent Australian who had recently arrived in London.

The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sir Percy Blakeney, decides not to go back to France for a year after having promised this to his beloved wife, Lady Blakeney. However, Chauvelin plots and succeeds in kidnapping the Lady Blakeney and brings her to France, expecting her husband to follow so he can arrest the elusive Pimpernel. The plot works, but Sir Percy and his friends manage to find the Lady and almost succeed in bringing her back with them. After receiving a tractor as a gift from the kolkhoz of an unnamed Soviet village, communist mayor Peppone plans to twin Brescello with the unnamed town. After some failed attempts to block the major's plan, Don Camillo ultimately tricks Peppone into including him (under a false name and with forged papers) among the Italian communist representatives going on the other side of the iron curtain to attend the twinning ceremonies. Only Peppone and the other comrades from Brescello will know the priest's real identity. During the Russian stay they will face a series of situations that will show them both the political contradictions of Soviet Russia and the normal life of its common people.
