Bahurani or Daughter-in-Law is a Bollywood film. It was released in 1940. The film was directed by R.S. Junnarkar and Mubarak for Kishore Sahu Productions. It starred Kishore Sahu, Rose, Anuradha, Mubarak, Madhurika, and Nana Palsikar. The music of the film was composed by Rafiqe Ghaznavi.

An elderly lady Rashmi (Kamini Kaushal), starts telling her story to a newly married couple she's giving shelter to as their car has broken down. The story in flashback, is set twenty years earlier. The wealthy landowner, Zamindar Mansingh, is oppressive and demanding of the people in his state. Rashmi and her family have just arrived in Gangapur as guests of Mansingh. Rashmi is captured by the dreaded dacoit Black Bandit. The Bandit releases Rashmi but keeps her jewellery. She notices a mark on the bandit's hand, which is also present on Pratap's hand. Pratap is the oldest son of Mansingh, and Rashmi realises that he's the bandit. Pratap also suffers from a heart problem unknown to the others. It's soon revealed that Pratap is the bandit and his father asks him to leave the house. When Pratap has a heart attack, his father relents and hands over the running of the property to him. Rashmi stays by his side and they get married. The flashback ends with the couple asking about Pratap's fate. Pratap is shown opening the gate of the house, returning from a fishing trip, having managed to survive the doctor's prognosis given twenty years back.

Emperor Ashoka's beloved wife, Asandhimitra, mother of Kunal, is dead and Ashoka is grief-stricken. Kunal is much loved by his step-mother, Kuruvaki. He is loved and admired by all in the kingdom and is Ashoka's favourite son. Over a period of time Ashoka overcomes his grief and marries a much younger, Tishyarakshita, daughter of a chieftain. Somdev, Ashoka's Prime Minister has opposed the alliance and is frequently humiliated by Tishya. When Tishya sees Kunal, she falls in love with him in spite of him having a wife, Kanchanmala, and a young son. Tishya is strongly rebuffed by Kunal. An angry Tishya has him accused of murder and put in the dungeon. She tells the guards to blind his eyes. Ashoka, enamoured of Tishya, is unable to see through her plotting. He falls ill and remains largely unaware of most incidents. Kurvaki, unable to see Kunal's plight, helps him escape. Kunal gets the help of the townspeople of Pataliputra and marches to the palace. Ashoka, on being told who is at the gates of the palace, calls for a durbar meeting. When he hears the entire story, his sense of fair play, his impartial justice, and remorse at his son's blinding help him mete out a strict punishment to Tishya, condemning her to be burnt.

The situation gives rise to several funny sequences till the villainous father of the child admits to being the real father and agrees to marry the mother of the abandoned child.

Set in a village, a young Brahmin couple Nandlal (Mumtaz Ali) and Uma (Devika Rani) are unable to have any children. The husband plans to take another wife, Padma. Misunderstandings arise when Nandlal gets suspicious about Uma and Ramu, but all is set right by Padma, Nandlal's second wife. She clears Uma's name, and gets Nandlal and Uma together before walking out of their lives.

Raibahadur Satpal Singh (Nazir Husain) is killed cold-blooded in a remote village. He is survived by his twin daughters Rekha & Rashmi (both played by Rekha). Rekha manages their business with the help of their chief estate manager Deewan (A. K. Hangal) along with his son and factory manager Kishore (Danny). Rashmi and Kishore are in love with each other which displeases Rekha, who sends Rashmi abroad to attend a painting course. On the other hand, Rekha too is disinterested about her marriage. Meanwhile, driving through their estate, Rekha's car breaks down and is helped by Prem (Shashi Kapoor), with a golden hand for such machines. After a few meets, both fall in love with each other. After a few days, Rekha announces her engagement with Prem to the surprise of everyone around. She also wills to assign the entire estate to Rashmi before engagement. During the engagement, when Rekha's Police Inspector friend Vikas shows up to wish the couple for the occasion, Prem is suspiciously found missing. The next evening, the couple go out to spend private time on a house-boat anchored in a lake on their estate. Later in the stormy night, Rekha finds Prem missing from the boat and starts looking for him. While searching, someone pushes her in the lake, but not before Rekha glimpses the shadow of this person. Everyone at the estate is surprised with the news of Rekha's death. Meanwhile, she survives and reaches the house of her friend Pinky (Aruna Irani). Once there, Rekha learns about Rashmi's arrival for Rekha' funeral, and both plan to investigate the incident. On the other hand, Kishore, Prem and the Police too start their investigation separately to unmask the killer. Meanwhile, when Rashmi (Rekha disguised) meets him, Prem discloses the intense love for Rekha. She finds quite a few on her suspect list. Kishore wills to go to any extent to marry Rashmi. Prem for his suspicious movements. The staff at their estate, like the cook (Jagdeep), house keeper Ambu (Lalita Pawar) et al. The story progresses and after a few thrilling sequences, the murderer is revealed in the climax.
