Hum Ek Hain
Directed by Syed Noor
Origin Pakistan
Actors Shaan Shahid, Saima, Shamil Khan

Hum Eik Hain begins with an Aaan showing Badshahi Mosque and other parts of Lahore with rather badly photographed (and badly lit) clips. The titles end on Shan (Mustafa) who is the muezzin. He is educated, wears jeans and is looking for a job. But he can't get a job even with repeated interviews. The academic degrees are not even worth good enough to be sold as waste paper. Trash must go to trash and the degrees are burnt alive in a rage of disappointment and frustration. There seems to be plenty of fire around at nights around Lahore with flames burning inside large empty drums (read 'a heavy symbolism of hero's agony').

A simple, love story between a Sikh girl (Saima) and a Muslim boy. In August 1947 in what was the final cynical act of a collapsing empire, the British left India divided. Arbitrary lines were drawn on the map of India, dividing not only the country but also provinces, in particular Punjab. The results of partition were catastrophic. All in the name of religion and nationalism people who had lived together in harmony for centuries committed mindless acts of violence against each other. All the blood spilt could not extinguish the fire of hate burning in their hearts of the people, resulting in over one million, Sikhs, Muslims and Hindus being butchered to death. An estimated 75,000 women were raped and over twelve million people were uprooted, Hindus and Sikhs to India and Muslims to Pakistan.
Qayamat – A Love Triangle In Afghanistan
Directed by Sangeeta
Origin Pakistan
Actors Shaan Shahid, Saima, Moammar Rana, Nirma, Deeba, Shafqat Cheema

The story begins when Afghanistan was invaded from the north by the former Soviet Union in 1979 and large number of Afghan refugees began crossing over into Pakistan. One such caravan brings Saima to this land of political unrest. Deeba Begum plays Shaan's mother, and Saima is his fiancée. In the war ravages, Deeba and Saima are lost to Shaan, and come to Pakistan. They camp in a small town, which is on the Pak-Afghan border, the tribal chief of which used to frequent their town once, and his son, Moammar Rana falls in love with Saima. Meanwhile, the war is halted and Shaan, the true fiancé, comes to this shantytown looking for his mother and his fiancé. You can well imagine what transpires after that. The Afghan war pales in front of the weaponry and ferocity that is witnessed between Mommy Rana and Shaan, after that.
