Beau Brummell (1954) is a historical film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was directed by Curtis Bernhardt and produced by Sam Zimbalist from a screenplay by Karl Tunberg, based on the play Beau Brummell by Clyde Fitch. The play was previously adapted as a silent film made in 1924 and starring John Barrymore as Beau Brummell, Mary Astor, and Willard Louis as the Prince of Wales.
The music score was by Richard Addinsell with Miklós Rózsa. The film stars Stewart Granger as Beau Brummell, Elizabeth Taylor, and Peter Ustinov as the Prince of Wales.
Synopsis
Au début du XIX siècle, à Londres, George, alias « Beau » Brummell, un jeune roturier devenu militaire, consacre toute son énergie à l'emporter sur ses rivaux mondains par l'élégance et par l'esprit. Il parvient ainsi à gagner l'amitié éblouie du régent, le prince de Galles, rejeton obèse, futile et despotique du roi fou George III. Constantinople, 1912. Le marquis de Sévigné, colonel français, vient d'arriver pour conseiller l'armée turque du sultan. Steven Kenet catches his unfaithful wife in the apartment of Willard I. Whitcombe, her boss, and apparently strangles her. After the Battle of Pharsalus where Julius Caesar (Rex Harrison) has defeated Pompey, Pompey flees to Egypt, hoping to enlist the support of the young Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII (Richard O'Sullivan) and his sister Cleopatra (Elizabeth Taylor). George Eastman (Montgomery Clift), the poor nephew of rich industrialist Charles Eastman (Herbert Heyes), arrives in town following a chance encounter with his uncle while working as a bellhop in a Chicago hotel.
