Synopsis
An unsuspecting nurse (Margot Kidder) fears her Forensic Pathologist second-husband (Barry Bostwick) may be the psychotic serial strangler behind a recent rash of grisly murders. A local police detective (Tony LoBianco) does his best to unravel clues that may prevent future slayings.Actors

Martha Beck is a sullen, overweight nursing administrator living in Mobile, Alabama, with her elderly mother (played by Dortha Duckworth). Martha's friend Bunny (played by Doris Roberts) surreptitiously submits Martha's name to a "lonely hearts" club, which results in a letter from Raymond Fernandez of New York City. The audience sees Ray surrounded by the photographs of his previous conquests as he composes his first letter to Martha. Overcoming her initial reluctance, Martha corresponds with Ray and becomes attached to him. He visits Martha and seduces her. Thereafter, having secured a loan from her, Ray sends Martha a Dear Jane letter, and Martha enlists Bunny's aid to call him with the (false) news that she has attempted suicide.

As he investigates the missing person report of a teenager named Chris Gant (based on Gacy's genuine final victim, Robert Piest), Des Plaines, IL detective Lt. Joe Kozenczak (Riley) becomes concerned that local businessman John Wayne Gacy (Dennehy) may be responsible for this and well as many other disappearances. However, when he and his team are ready to arrest Gacy, their evidence is viewed as being circumstantial. A disoriented man climbs up into the attic of a sorority house while the occupants hold a Christmas party. Jess Bradford (Olivia Hussey) receives an obscene phone call from "the moaner", a man who has recently been calling the house. After she calls sorority friends Barb Coard (Margot Kidder), Phyllis Phyl Carlson (Andrea Martin), Clare Harrison (Lynne Griffin) and the several other girls to listen, he starts saying perverted things to them, until Barb provokes the caller, to which he replies, "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU." Barb and Clare argue about the things she said to him, and Clare leaves. She is then attacked and killed; her body is carried up into the attic, where the killer places her in a rocking chair and puts a doll in her lap.

High school student Kale Brecht and his father Daniel get into a serious car accident while driving home from a fishing trip, and Daniel dies. One year later, Kale remains inconsolable after his father's death. Near the end of the school year, he is reprimanded by his Spanish teacher, Señor Gutierrez, and when Gutierrez brings up Kale's father, Kale attacks him. For this assault, he is sentenced by the sympathetic judge to a three-month house arrest period with an ankle monitor and a proximity sensor, which prohibit him from roaming beyond the boundaries of his house and yard. He then learns that one of the police officers monitoring him is his teacher's arrogant cousin. Initially, he satiates his boredom by playing video games, but shortly after, his mother Julie cancels his subscriptions to the iTunes Music Store and Xbox Live, and cuts the power cord of his television in order to get him to learn a hard lesson.

After the body of murdered woman is found, nude and handcuffed, floating down the Hudson River in New York, a string of murders occur by an unseen serial killer who kills men by handcuffing them before killing them. Mac, a TV talk-show host, and Larry, a police detective, team up to try to find the killer and seek help from Virna, a clairvayant young artist, who draws visions of the murders before they happen.
