The movie is set in the early 19th century with the hero and his brother becoming highwaymen, robbing the wealthy around the foothills of Dublin, Ireland. Our hero, Captain Lightfoot, falls in love, and the ensuing drama threatens everyone's safety.
The movie was filmed around Clogherhead (a village in County Louth) and Powerscourt Estate (a country estate with a grand house in Enniskerry, County Wicklow).

Spoiled playboy Bob Merrick's (Rock Hudson) reckless behavior causes him to lose control of his speed boat. Rescuers send for the nearest resuscitator, located in Dr. Phillips's house across the lake. While the resuscitator is being used to save Merrick, Dr. Phillips suffers a heart attack and dies. Merrick ends up a patient at Dr. Phillips's clinic, where most of the doctors and nurses resent the fact that Merrick inadvertently caused Dr. Phillips's death.

During the fifth century the Roman Empire has been split in two and come under attack of the Huns under Attila. The year is 1928. Samuel Fulton (Charles Coburn) is an old and lonely New York millionaire who has decided to leave his fortune to the family of the late Millicent Blaisdell. Millicent is the only woman he has ever been in love with and they briefly dated, until she dumped him because she did not return his love.
