A Polish officer works undercover in 1930s Berlin to discover Nazi Germany's plans against his homeland. The casting of Birgel in the title role referenced his best-known performance during the Nazi era when he had played another Rittmeister in Riding for Germany (1941).
Synopsis
Peu de temps après 1933: L'espion polonais Igor Wronski doit quitter le service après un duel et des traites non tenues. Grâce aux relations de sa sœur Jadwiga, Wronski entre en contact avec le colonel Maty à Varsovie. Il postule auprès de Berlin et est engagé. À Berlin, Wronski, par son charme avec les femmes, parvient aux plus hautes sphères du ministère de la Défense. La jeune Liane est secrétaire au ministère de la Guerre et la maîtresse de Wronski. Elle lui donne de nombreux courriers internes. Cependant la personne la plus importante est Leonore von Cronberg, nièce du colonel Ranke et secrétaire du chef du département de la planification des chars. Elle se rend vite compte que Wronski est un espion, mais se tourne vers son côté. Elle lui procure des documents secrets qu'il donne à Jadwiga. Les Polonais qui négocient un pacte de non-agression ont une image précise des plans de défense des Allemands. Ils se croient en sécurité et signent le pacte. Maty est informé que les Polonais connaissaient bien sûr les plans des Allemands, parce qu'ils ont reçu des informations d'un certain nombre de femmes au sein du ministère. Maty avait récemment annoncé à Wronski que tout dénonciateur serait liquidé.Actors

This World War II movie brilliantly opens with Sally Maitland (Anna Neagle) appearing to signal Nazi planes to bomb England after murdering an innocent citizen in his home. The next morning Sally boards a ship bound from Britain for Canada crossing an Atlantic with German predators afoul. Two of the passengers, Jim Garrick (Richard Greene) and Polish officer Jan Orlock (Albert Lieven), seek her acquaintance despite her long-time, and well-known admiration for Nazi Germany. It soon becomes common knowledge that Jim is in British intelligence. Sally rebuffs his advances, but welcomes Jan's attention. Much later in the film to keep us guessing, we learn that Sally is in fact a deep cover British agent on a secret mission shadowing her quarry Jan. She chases Jan across the globe thwarting sabotage against the allies. Unbeknownst to Sally, Jim is assigned to help and protect her on the same mission.

In 1991, the governments of the U.S. and China are on the verge of a major trade agreement, with the President of the United States due to visit China to seal the deal. The CIA learns that its agent Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) has been captured trying to free a Briton, Elizabeth Hadley (Catherine McCormack), from a People's Liberation Army prison in Su Chou near Shanghai, China. Early in the Second World War, an explosion occurs when safecracker Eddie Chapman (Christopher Plummer) blows open a wall safe. The West Berlin office of the Circus, under administrator Alec Leamas (Richard Burton), has not been doing well. He is recalled to London shortly after the death of one of his operatives.
