Chandamama Kathalu Volume 1 is a 2014 Telugu, anthology film directed by Praveen Sattaru and produced by Chanakya Bhooneti. The film has eight sub-stories revolving around love.
The lives of the central characters in the sub-plots get intertwined with each other. Lakshmi Manchu, Aamani, Naresh, Krishnudu, Chaitanya Krishna, Abhijeet, Naga Shourya, Vennela Kishore, Amitha Rao and Richa Panai play the lead roles.

Mickey J Meyer composed the music. The shooting was wrapped up in December 2013. The film was released on 25 April 2014 to wide critical acclaim. The film bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu for the year 2014 while Lakshmi Manchu won her Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress - Telugu for her work in the film.

Synopsis

Saaradhi (Kishore) is a writer and a widower. His little daughter is suffering from a chronic ailment and he desperately needs 5 lacs. He starts writing a novel with seven different story lines, all inspired from his surroundings. Lisa Smith (Lakshmi Manchu) is a super model at the fag end of her career with no money left. Venkateshwara Rao (Krishnudu) is a bachelor desperate to get married, whose only aim in life is to find a(ny) girl. Ashraf (Abhijeet) has a small departmental store in old city and want to marry his sweetheart Haseena (Richa Panai). Raghu (Chitanya Krishna) studies in a junior college and he lures Renu (Shamili) - daughter of a noted politician in love. There is a beggar (Krishneshwara Rao) whose life time ambition is to buy a small house. Saritha (Aamani) is a widow who reconnects with her college-time friend Mohan (Naresh) a NRI divorcee who returns to India. Raju (Naga Shourya) is a typical village youngster who is busy chasing a girl Gauri (Isha Ranganath).

The film begins with Varun (Nani) gaining admission into an engineering college. He and his friends one day participate in a cultural programme, where Varun finds his childhood sweetheart Nithya (Samantha) participating in a dance show. He begins wooing her by singing on stage and later meeting her. As they meet, the film rewinds to their early days when both were in third standard. They become good friends after a small incident and their friendship blossoms. But due to a misunderstanding, Nithya decides not to meet Varun and to never talk with him. However, as destiny would have it, they meet again in their tenth standard. Nithya initially hesitates to talk with Varun, but sheds her inhibitions once Varun breaks the ice between them, and resumes her friendship with him. Nithya is elected as the pupil leader in school and as a pupil leader she is in constant interaction with Deepak, another pupil leader and her classmate, much to the dismay of Varun. Balu Mahendra (Naga Chaitanya) is always the top ranker in his college. Mahalakshmi (Tamanna), his cousin comes to Balu’s house to continue her studies. Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) is a mechanical engineering graduate but aspires to become a filmmaker. Through his friend, Karthik gets introduced to director Puri Jagannadh. With his support,Karthik family, who are Hindus, rents the ground floor of a two-storeyed house which belongs to the Thekekuttus. The Thekekuttu family is a conservative Malayali Syrian Catholic family from Alappuzha, Kerala, who live upstairs. The Thekekuttus have a daughter, Jessie (Samantha), who is 2 years older to Karthik. When Karthik meets Jessie for the first time, he falls in love with her. Karthik expresses his love one day to her, who is afraid of speaking to men around her strict father, and ends up angering Jessie. The two meet several times afterwards and Jessie begins to admit that she likes Karthik but wants to refrain from any problems because she knows her father won't accept a Hindu marrying their daughter. Her parents learn about their affair and arrange a marriage for her. But at the wedding, she refuses to marry the groom, displeasing everyone in her family. Karthik and Jessie continue to love each other without the knowledge of their parents. Suddenly, Jessie is forced by her father to marry and seeks Karthik's help, who was in Goa for a film shooting. Busy Karthik is unable to attend to her calls and messages; Jessie is unable to reach him. After a tense phone call from Jessie, Karthik goes back one night to check on her. An angry and hurt Jessie makes a final decision to break up with Karthik because of her father's strong disapproval of their love.
