Chandralekha is a 1998 Telugu film, produced by Akkineni Nagarjuna and V. Ram Prasad on Great India Enterprises banner, directed by Krishna Vamsi. Starring Nagarjuna Akkineni, Ramya Krishna and Isha Koppikar in lead roles and music composed by Sandeep Chowtha . This is the second combination of Nagarjuna-Vamsi-Chowtha after Ninne Pelladatha. Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt made a special appearance for the first time in a Telugu film. This film is a remake of Mohanlal starred Malayalam film Chandralekha directed by Priyadarshan.

Synopsis

Sitarama Rao alias Seeta (Nagarjuna Akkineni) is a struggling unemployed youth who arrives in Hyderabad to meet his sister (Jhansi) and brother-in-law (Tanikella Bharani), his father has been falsely implicated in a bank fraud and wants to sell his ancestral property to pay towards the litigation, for that he needs his sister's approval but is rebuked and banished by his brother-in-law. Disillusioned, Seeta seeks out his old school mate Tirupathi (Brahmaji), who is working in a fruit juice vending shop in Hyderabad. Tirupathi himself is a hapless uneducated youth working for his uncle (Rallapalli), who is a treacherous money lender, with a hope to marry his daughter Bangari (Priya). They plan to open a cool drink shop but need 1.25 lakh Rupees to rent a shop as a prerequisite to getting a bank loan. With no other way in sight, the two of them swindle Tirupathi's uncle out of 1.25 lakh Rupees. Seeta then tries to get the loan sanctioned, but he is rebuffed by a new Bank manager (M. S. Narayana) who had taken charge by then.

Ninne Pelladata is family romance based movie in which Mahalakshmi (Tabu) comes to Hyderabad for job training and falls in love with Seenu (Nagarjuna). The duo decide to inform their respective parents of their plan to get married. Seenu's family welcomes Mahalaxmi, and approves of her. Just shortly after their approval, Mahalaxmi's parents interrupt the proceedings and forcibly take Mahalaxmi with them, to get her married to someone else, leaving Mahalaxmi and Seenu to an unknown fate.

Way back in 1800's, on a Diwali midnight, a zamindar insults Goddess Durga by try stealing her idol in the temple in a state of inebriation and gets killed by the enraged Goddess Durga who puts a curse on his heirs that she is going to take one family member each every 48 years on the day of Diwali and one male heir dies accidentally at the end of every 48 years. Thus since his childhood Murari considers Gopi as his mother since his mother died giving birth to him.

Shekhar (Sanjay Kapoor) and Nandini (Karisma Kapoor) are friends living in Canada with their two uncles. Shekhar proposes to Nandini and she says yes and now they have a young son named Raja. Shekhar tries to bring peace between the warring gangs, but is attacked by the rival gang & killed on way to a re-conciliatory meeting that he wanted to attend on his father's behalf. Nandini feels insecure and decides to leave India with her son but Narasimha imprisons them. Desperate to escape, she goes on a difficult journey to return to Canada with the help of Shekhar's mother and sister. Wanted by Narasimha, Nandini seeks help from drifter Jai Singh (Shahrukh Khan) who after hesitation, helps her and her son board a train to Jaipur. In order to protect Nandini and her son, Jai fights with the goon and dies after killing the goons. Meanwhile, Shekhar's mother begs his father to let Nandini and her son go. However, Narasimha goes but at the airport, he gets emotional and after kissing his grandson, allows them to go. The films ends with Nandini along with her son boarding a plane to Canada.
