Chatrapathy is a Tamil language film directed by Srimahesh. The film features R. Sarathkumar and Nikita Thukral in lead roles whilst Vadivelu, Mahadevan and Rajesh play supporting roles. The film was released in February 2004 and later re-released in Hindi under the dubbed title of The Great Chatrapathy.

Synopsis

Saravanan is a Bus Driver in a college. He also takes care of an Orphanage which is home to numerous children and old-aged people. Indhu, a student of the college tries to Woo Saravanan while Rowdy's and other Anti-Social elements in the city are found dead one after the other. Chakravarthy, the politico who loses his right-hand man vows revenge and realizes that, Saravanan the person who killed his henchmen is indeed an Army Major whom he and his men had eliminated years ago in a scuffle over his sister Saranya's land.

The film opens with Arasu (Sarath Kumar) murdering a person in Mumbai. Later the story shifts to Kumbakonam where he is an assistant to a temple priest (Delhi Ganesh). Soon the priest’s daughter Meera (Simran) falls in love with Arasu. At the stroke of interval Arasu sheds his mask and murders a rowdy who is out from jail and this shocks everybody. Then in a flashback he tells that his father (Sarath Kumar) believes in taking law into his hands and thus had lot of enemies. When he confronts a bad guy (Sai Kumar) and humiliates him, the villains later kills Arasu’s father. The rest of the story is how Arasu takes revenge.

Raghavan (Sarathkumar) and Velu (Vadivelu) work as cooks in a non-veg hotel. Raghavan loves Geetha (Kiran) who is the daughter of a rich man (Vijayan), but her father is against this love and insults him as a poor man. Raghavan challenges that he will be rich in a year. Maayi (Sarathkumar) is the well-respected, do-gooder in the village. He sees women in the village as his sisters and even conducts their marriages. He is a man who is ready to kill his father(Vijayakumar) when he learns that he had a second wife. But the father opts to kill himself rather than face his son and so, Maayi brings his stepsister Lakshmi (Suvalakshmi) to live with him. When the local MLA(Rajan. P. Dev) comes to him for support, he refuses and the MLA loses the election. But his son(Anand), who admires Maayi, marries Lakshmi. Meanwhile Bhuvaneswari (Meena), Maayi's sister's daughter, who comes to the village from Bangalore, wishes to marry him. Revealing his sad past, Maayi tells her why he can never think of marrying any woman. Later Meena was forced to married another guy. But during the marriage the guys family misunderstood that Meena and Sarathkumar are lovers and stopped the marriage. In the end; Sarathkumar married Meena.
