The film, produced by Aru. Shanmuganathan and Aru. Subramaniam, had musical score by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 29 January 1993. The film was remade in Telugu as Ooyala starring Meka Srikanth, Ramya Krishnan with Nassar and Suhasini reprising their roles again.
Synopsis
Aravind, a youngster who was transferred for a job, falls in love with Gayatri. Despite their parents' refusal, they marry and have a girl ( Shamili) but Gayatri dies when the baby is about 2 years. Aravind befriends with a couple (Suhasini and Nassar). One day, the couple's daughter, Priya dies. Then, Uma and Pradeep, ask to adopt Saranya. Aravind cannot let them to do it because it was his only family. Later before dying, a nurse contacts Uma to reveal that Saranya was her daughter and Priya was Aravind's child. Uma take the affair to the court. The judge decides to let Saranya to Uma and Pradeep, her real parents. Saranya don't want to live with them so Uma lets her to go with Aravind.Actors

Balu (Karthik) is a graduate youth, came from his village to town, who want to become rich. He works as a police informer and fall in love with Janaki (Sithara), the daughter of Inspector Veerapandian. Veerapandian asks Balu to watch closely his daughter if she had a boyfriend. In the same time, Veerapandian's ennemy Kumar (Nassar) tries to kidnap her daughter, they fail due to his opposition. Balu finds an illegal drug trade and his house's owner was sent in jail, then his all family commits suicide. Veerapandian is promoted as assistant commissioner and Balu resigns his job. One day, Veerapandian finds Balu in a crime scene and asks him to say who's the killer but he refuses. Even beaten, he says nothing and he cannot find a job. Baby is killed and Balu decides to steal the money from criminals. Balu becomes rich and Kumar falls in love with Balu's sister Parvathi. Balu was later arrested by Veerapandian and Kumar refuses to save him, his sister realises that she has been cheated by Kumar and Kumar kills her. Janaki tells that the culprit is Darmaraj and Veerapandian releases him. Balu kills Kumar and Darmaraj to revenge his sister death.

Ravi (Vijayakumar) is happily married to Savitri (Latha). Savitri’s brother Ramesh (Rajinikanth) has come from Singapore, and they all go to Ravi’s estate for a vacation. And that night starts Savitri’s terrible ordeal. An apparition is visible only to her eye; an eerie song and the sound of anklets make themselves heard only to her ears. And before she realizes what is happening, another spirit enters her body, driving out her own spirit! Overnight Savitri’s persona itself changes; she talks, walks and behaves like a different woman. Ramesh is puzzled at the change, and keeps a watch on her. He follows her, as she wanders all over the hills with the easy familiarity of a person who has lived there all her life. He sees her shed tears over two names carved on a tree trunk; the fading legends "Radha" and "Ravi" tell the tragic tale of love and loss. He follows her as he goes to a humble cottage and eavesdrops as she introduces herself to the incredulous old woman (Pushpalatha) as her dead daughter Radha. It was only due to her unrequited love that she was hovering as a banshee so far, she explains. She tells excitedly that in the 5 days before new moon, if she can have a physical union with Ravi even once, she would be alive again. And if she didn’t succeed? Well, she would push Ravi down the same waterfall where she had met her end, so that they could unite in the other world. In the old disused bungalow of Ravi, Ramesh sees a picture of Radha and listens to a cassette as well. He confronts Ravi with the photo, and Ravi tells all- how he fell in love with Radha (Padmapriya), the daughter of the late factory supervisor. They roamed all over the hills, even as the lofty knolls were passive spectators to their love. With steadfast determination, Ravi manages to get his father’s (VSR) acceptance. But when he rushes back with the happy tidings, he finds only her body- she had met a watery grave trying to escape from the clutches of her evil suitor Ranga (Kannan). Armed with the facts now, Ramesh thwarts off the attempts of the possessed Savitri’s attempts to sleep with Ravi. The first night she dresses provocatively and sings a song of seduction in the bedroom. Ramesh knocks the door and pulls Ravi out telling him that there was a call that the factory is on fire. And the second night, he dissolves some strong sedatives in Ravi’s glass of milk. The third morning, in the labour day gathering where they are special invitees, the transformed Savitri dances and sings with abandon. That night, she takes Ravi to their summer cottage, but her plan goes awry again when Ramesh sets it on fire. On the next night, Ravi is returning home when Ranga waylays him to settle old scores and hits him on the head. Ramesh rescues him in time. Of course, that night too passes without Radha’s schemes seeing success. The last night, its do or die for Radha, and so she puts the vigilant Ramesh to sleep and lures Ravi out with a soft song of invitation. Savitri’s displaced spirit crying out ‘Anna! Anna!’ and the barking dog wake up Ramesh and soon he is in pursuit as Radha sings and leads Ravi up the hill. In the end, good triumphs over evil.

The film is a story about the love of two teenagers of different classes – Raja (Prashanth) who is settled in America,the grand son of a rich business woman (Bhanumathi), comes to the Fisherman Village in India to see his grand mother. Chembaruthi (Roja) sister of a poor fisherman Pandy (Radha Ravi) who works in Bhanumathi house & the couple first see each other during Raja's birthday party & it is love at first sight for Raja. At the party they announce their interest of Raja with Pinky. Raaj realises that his relationship with the daughter of a poor fisherman is not taken kindly by his eccentric Grand Mother & when she comes to know Raja's love with Chemaruthi, she accuses Pandy, of using his sister's beauty & charm to trap Raja for his money. She even offers Pandy cash to have Chembaruthi stop seeing Raja. Pandy feels highly humiliated by this accusation & reciprocates by insulting Bhanumathi. Their talk enters a deadlock & spells doom for Raja & Chembaruthi's tender love. Bhanumathi engages Raja to the daughter of Murugan in order to establish business ties with her rich father. Murugan also engages his sister to another fisherman Kumar (Mansoor Ali Khan) But Raj & Chembaruthi run away from home. Bhanumathi announces a reward for anyone who can help find her grandson. Murugan decides that he wants the money. He & his goons find the lovers, kidnap & lock them up in a Boat. Raja. fights his life out for Chembaruthi & save her from being drowned in the sea. Bhanumathi realize that their love is very strong & doesn't want to stand in the way of their happiness. She & Pandy accept their love & give their blessings to the union.
