Poovarasan is a 1996 Tamil drama film, directed by Gokula Krishnan, starring Karthik and Rachana Banerjee in lead roles. The film, produced by M. Gafar had musical score by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 9 August 1996.

Synopsis

Ukrapandi (Vijayakumar) ordered to Govind (Goundamani) to kill his baby to save his wife's life after consulting an astrologer. Govind give the baby to Sudalai (Chandrasekhar) and ordered to kill him. Twenty-five years later, Poovarasan (Karthik) was recruited by Govind to work. Poovarasan and Kaveri (Rachana Banerjee) failed in love each others. One day, Poovarasan saved Senadapathi (Radha Ravi).

Amaran (Karthik), a orphan child, is brought up by Govindan (Vijayakumar) whom Amaran saved. He was taken care by the underworld don Menon (Shammi Kapoor) and continues to work for him for a while and gets married to Sivagaami.

The film opens with the birth of Baba (Rajinikanth), who is a 'baba amsa sambhootudu'. Baba grows up as an atheist, hot-blooded man but a Good Samaritan.
