Rajanadai is a 1989 Tamil crime film directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar. The film features Vijayakanth and Seetha in lead roles. The film, produced by Shoba Chandrasekhar, had musical score by M. S. Viswanathan and was released on 28 October 1989. The film was later remade in Hindi as Jeevan Ki Shatranj.

Synopsis

Vijayakanth (Vijayakanth), an honest C.I.D inspector, is married to Seetha (Seetha) and they have a daughter Shamili (Shamili). Vijayakanth has enough evidences to arrest the dangerous criminal Tiger (Charan Raj). Vijayakanth befriends Rekha, a C.I.D inspector, without knowing that she is Seetha's friend. Seetha compels Rekha to live with them. Seetha has the blood cancer but she hides to her husband. When her husband and her friend know this news, they decide to go in U.S.A for the treatment but Tiger manages to kill Seetha and erases the proofs. Vijayakanth is now more determined to catch Tiger.

Vijay (Rajinikanth) is a Tamil professor living with his widowed mother and his sister. He is in love with Uma (Ambika), a lawyer. During a visit to his friend Ravi's (Nizhalgal Ravi) house, he is disgusted by goings-on in his neighborhood. Illicit liquor is being sold at a tea-stall while prostitution is flourishing in another house in the same colony. But his complaints to the police, yield nothing since the policeman is on the villains' payroll and manages to warn them before making a raid. When Ravi's sister is raped and killed and the perpetrator Mohanraj (Sathyaraj) gets off scot-freewith help from a minister, Vijay and Ravi take matters into their own hands and clean up the tea-stall and brothel on their own. Wanting to teach Vijay a lesson, Mohanraj and his goondas rape his sister (who then commits suicide) and kill his mother. Vijay then turns into a vigilante, walking the streets at nights and dealing out his own brand of justice - shoot first and ask questions later - to the rowdies and goondas. He soon becomes known as Robinhood, helper of the poor and the police sends Singaaram (Bhagyaraj) to unmask Robinhood.

The film is a story of romance that centers around two lovers: Devaa (Vijay) and Bharadhi (Swathi). The two are deep in love but encounter opposition from Bharadhi's father (Sivakumar), the head of the village. Sivakumar believes that his daughter's suitor is not a suitable one, due to his perceived reputation throughout the village. Although the son of the well to do Manorama, it comes to light that Sivakumar's disapproval stems from his relationship with his brother, who is seemingly apathetic and lackadaisical. The film ends happily with Sivakumar recognizing that his now son-in-law is in actuality a really upstanding citizen in the village. The two young lovers overcome all problems and live their lives happily married.
