A German commando group with a mission to assassinate Churchill, Roosevelt and de Gaulle at the Casablanca Conference. The film is a character-based drama that focuses on the German soldiers' various drives and conflicts during encounters with Tuareg nomads, and French and American soldiers.
The film was released as Les Chiens verts du désert (The green desert dogs) in France, as Fünf gegen Casablanca (Five against Casablanca) in Germany and as Desert Commandos in the USA. Some commenters consider the film to be Umberto Lenzi's best and have remarked the film is notable for having Germans as the heroes and with mixed multi-dimensional characters.
Synopsis
En décembre 1942. Les agents du contre-espionnage allemand apprennent qu'une conférence inter-Alliés de la plus haute importance réunira prochainement, à Casablanca, Churchill, Roosevelt et De Gaulle. L'occasion est trop belle. Cinq vétérans des campagnes africaines de la Wehrmacht sont parachutés en plein désert. Ils se déguisent en soldats alliés et entreprennent de traverser les lignes ennemies et le Sahara. Leur périple est mouvementé. Seuls trois d'entre eux atteignent l'oasis où les attendent des agents arabes. Les difficultés qui ont émaillé leur progression ont alerté les services d'espionnage américain et britannique. Juin 1944, les Alliés vont débarquer en Normandie pour commencer la libération de l’Europe. The American television news reporter Dean Miller (Hugo Stiglitz) waits at a European airport to interview a scientist about a recent nuclear accident. An unmarked military plane makes an emergency landing. The plane doors open and dozens of deformed people burst out and begin stabbing and shooting the military personnel outside; they prove to be resistant to the most grievous wounds and are relentless in their assault, stopping only to consume the blood of their victims. Miller tries to alert the public, but General Murchison of Civil Defense (Mel Ferrer) will not allow it. Miller tries to find his wife Anna (Laura Trotter), who works at a hospital, as the crazed assailants overrun the city, their ranks swollen by many of their former victims.

Danielle et Jean Reynaud ont les apparences d'un couple de grands bourgeois parisiens : il est industriel; riche et accumule les conquêtes car sa femme se refuse à lui. Dans l'appartement au-dessus de chez eux emménage Nicole qui sort d'une relation très difficile avec Klaus. Jean l'attire dans ses bras mais tombe profondément amoureux d'elle. Elle le prévient néanmoins que Klaus cherche à le tuer, à la demande d'un inconnu. Après un échec sur la Riviera, Klaus fait venir Jean dans l'appartement de Nicole et au cours d'une lutte, finit par le poignarder. Il n'a fait qu'exécuter la demande des deux femmes, complices. Le meurtre est maquillé en incendie de la voiture de Jean, dans laquelle la police ne retrouve donc qu'un corps carbonisé. Cependant, Danielle éprouve visions et remords de la disparition de son mari, et finit par être persuadée que Jean n'est pas mort et est complice de Nicole. Alors qu'elle est au téléphone, elle sent sa présence dans l'appartement et meurt d'un coup de feu en prononçant son nom. Sur la déposition de Nicole, la police accepte avec réticence l'hypothèse du suicide, alors que c'est Klaus qui a tiré le coup de feu fatal. Lui et Nicole, qui a hérité de la fortune de Jean, s'envolent pour l'Amérique du Sud. Mais le commissaire est dans l'avion.

In Nazi Germany during World War II, David March (Goulet) is an American traitor who has been given wide access to travel as he wishes within Germany. Unbeknownst to the Germans, March is actually an American spy, the last remaining from a spy ring, known as Blue Light. As time goes on, he has been able to work his way higher and higher within the Nazi intelligence apparatus, however he is suspected by a Nazi Gestapo officer, Captain Elm (Werner Peters). Along the way, he meets Susanne Duchard (Carère), a French agent, who he has a romantic interlude with, and persuades her to help him.

The young Wehrmacht Lieutenant Wisse is sent to serve as a liaison officer with the Romanian Army at Stalingrad. His new commander, Major Linkmann, is a rigid officer who looks down on their allies, contrary to Wisse. Soon after his arrival, the Red Army encircles the Germans, and they retreat into the city of Stalingrad. During the flight, Linkmann tries to abandon them. Wisse convinces a sergeant to ignore the orders obliging him to burn the supply depot, thus procuring provisions for the soldiers. In Stalingrad, he is again put under Linkmann's command. The tensions between them soar while their soldiers become desperate with hunger, as the 6th Army is ordered to hold on. Wisse is nearly captured by the Soviets, but a Russian woman whom he once helped leads him back to the German lines. Eventually, Linkmann tries to surrender by himself, but is shot dead by two of his own men. When the 6th Army commander, Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus, orders the remaining German troops in Stalingrad to surrender, Wisse and his soldiers are sent to a POW camp.

The film begins shortly before the outbreak of World War II when ensign Jochen Marseille is located at a Luftwaffe (Air Force) Kriegsschule (War School) in Berlin, where he makes a negative impression on his superiors with daredevil stunts and undisciplined behavior. His friend and comrade, Robert Franke, helps spare him from severe punishment. His squadron moves to France after the outbreak of World War II. During the Battle of Britain, Marseille experiences the brutality of war for the first time when Franke is shot down over the English Channel and is posted missing for a short while. But after his comrade's return, Marseille is back to a carefree world of flying. A thoughtful conversation in a bar while playing a game of billiards with an elderly French civilian affects him and his fellow pilots only briefly. A short time later, his unit is transferred to the Afrikakorps in the North African Theater of Operations. Marseille, thanks to his outstanding flying skill and talent, quickly becomes the most successful fighter pilot.
