Dhag (Marathi: धग, meaning Blaze) is an Indian Marathi film directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil. The story of the film is of a young boy wanting to break the successions of traditional jobs in his low caste family. The film was released on 7 March 2014, by DAR Film Distributors. Initial Public Relation activity was done by Ram Kondilkar then its marketing & PR for the film was done by Newsmax Multimedia Pvt. Ltd. The film was released in national & international film festivals.

The film has won in total of 47 awards which includes 3 awards at the 60th National Film Awards : Best Director, Best Actress for Usha Jadhav and a Special Jury mention for performance by a child actor for Hansraj Jagtap.

Synopsis

Dhag is the story of Krishna, his mother and their seemingly ambitious aspirations for Krishna, against the backdrop of their socio-economic standing.

The film begins with the brutal murder of a Mumbai man named John by a group of Gangsters led by ruthless Kingpin Bappu Ganesh (Upendra Limaye) who terrorizes the slums of Mumbai striking fear into the heart of slum-dwellers. Shiva Swarassi (Mohit Alawat) is a poor slum-dweller who, after watching his parents being brutally murdered by Bappu's men, decides that it's time to get rid of Bappu. He gets the people of Dharavi Slum in Mumbai together and forms a rebellion against Bappu promising that he will avenge his deceased parents and kill Bappu.

The story begins with the young schoolteacher walking alone towards the village called Bangarwadi, across a deserted landscape. When the teacher reaches Bangarwadi, he finds that the school is not working and people are reluctant to send their children to school. The schoolteacher, with a support of Karbhari (village head) successfully convince the local people to send their children to school. Over the next months, he successfully runs the school. Teacher tries to help the illiterate and needy people of the village with all possible means, which sometimes land him into troubles. After successful run at school, he convinces the villager to set up a gymnasium through community participation. He invites the king of the state, Pant Pratinidhi for its inauguration. A sudden death of village head leaves village and schoolteacher shocked, this is followed by a prolong drought. The schoolteacher tries his best to get help from government with frequent letters describing the graveness of situation, but gets no response. Drought forces people of Bangarwadi to abandon the village, leaving the schoolteacher alone with no students.

Deshu (Randeep Hooda) is a mechanic in Dubai, who has come home after his mother's death. His father is a dry, gruff police constable. Professor Ilango comes to his native village near Theni, with his college going daughter, Charulatha (Mamta Mohandas). Lot of candidates withdraw from the fray fearing death. The parties are in a fix on what to do. The Police are on the trace out for the killer. The Election Commission postpones the elections.
