Doctor Bull is a 1933 American Pre-Code comedy film directed by John Ford, based on the James Gould Cozzens novel The Last Adam. Will Rogers portrays a small town doctor who must deal with a typhoid outbreak in the community.
The film was well praised by the New York Times, which noted that the story is similar to Lionel Barrymore's film One Man's Journey when it premiered at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Andy Devine met his future wife during the making of this picture.
Synopsis
Dans une petite ville de la Nouvelle-Angleterre, le docteur George Bull se démène auprès des habitants, mais devient vite une source de commérages. On lui reproche notamment sa présence régulière dans la maison d'une jeune veuve, Mrs Cardmaker, à la tête de la ferme qui approvisionne le village, mais aussi ses façons débonnaires. Médecin de l'ancienne école, il prescrit plus qu'à son tour de l'huile de ricin pour les petits maux dont il ne se soucie guère mais passe chaque jour de longs instants au chevet d'un homme paralysé des jambes qu'il tente de faire remarcher…Actors

In the year 1890, the honorable Judge William Priest enforces justice in an old Kentucky town. The film begins with the comedic trial of Jeff Poindexter. Jeff Poindexter, a black man, has been accused of stealing chickens. Although Judge Priest is presiding, he is reading a newspaper while Senator Horace Maydew argues the plaintiff’s case. In fact, no one, but Senator Maydew, seems to care about the case. Jeff Poindexter sleeps through Senator Maydew’s testimony. After Senator Maydew is finished with his argument, Judge Priest asks the sheriff to wake up Jeff Poindexter. When Jeff reveals he got his name from Major Randolph Poindexter, Judge Priest and the other confederate veterans in attendance become very excited. They praise Major Poindexter’s ability to lick the Yankees. While the confederate veterans reminisce over the civil war, Senator Maydew complains that such history has nothing to do with the case. Judge Priest says it is relevant because Major Poindexter would often steal Yankee chickens. Next, Jeff reveals he was only trying to fish for catfish. Judge Priest, a fishing enthusiast himself, has a discussion with Jeff about his fishing. After the trial, Jeff lives with Judge Priest.

Lorsqu'il part pour Londres, Gertie n'a plus de nouvelles d'Eric, qui accède enfin au succès grâce à la pièce de Shakespeare. Lorsqu'Eric rentre à New York, il découvre que Juan et Gertie, toujours amoureuse de lui secrètement, vont se marier. Il est surpris avec la mariée par Juan qui le frappe et le vire de la cérémonie. Eric, dont le narcissisme a gâché l'histoire d'amour avec Gertie, finit seul.
