The story unfolds in a family of landowners from the colonial era, which owns a sugar plantation on the edge of the jungle. Ernesto (Martin Halm), a 17-year-old Jew of the 1911 Italy, abandons his family, going to live with his uncles of Trieste. Then, they arrange so Ernesto begins to work with them and so he meets a stableboy (Michele Placido) who infatuates him so both end up in an intense sexual relationship.
