Esquilache is a 1989 Spanish film directed by Josefina Molina. The film stars Fernando Fernán Gómez as Leopoldo de Gregorio, Marquis of Esquilache. It is based on the play "Un Soñador Para Un Pueblo" by Antonio Buero Vallejo. The film was entered into the 39th Berlin International Film Festival.

Two small-time con men make a living of swindling people. They have a relatively happy life despite some "visits" to Carabanchel Prison. The story unfolds in a family of landowners from the colonial era, which owns a sugar plantation on the edge of the jungle. Ernesto (Martin Halm), a 17-year-old Jew of the 1911 Italy, abandons his family, going to live with his uncles of Trieste. Then, they arrange so Ernesto begins to work with them and so he meets a stableboy (Michele Placido) who infatuates him so both end up in an intense sexual relationship. This ends as, by chance, Ernesto has a sexual intercourse with a prostitute. Ernesto renounces then, to take lessons of violin instead. There, he meets the 15-year-old Emilio, by whom Ernesto gets acquainted with his twin sister Rachel (Lara Wendel). Ernesto and Rachel are married.
