February 15, 1839 (original title: 15 février 1839) is a 2001 Quebec historical drama film. Directed by Pierre Falardeau, it is about the incarceration at the Pied-du-Courant Prison and the execution by hanging there of Patriote participants of the Lower Canada Rebellion. Those rebels sought to make Lower Canada, now Quebec, a republic independent from the British Empire.
It features as characters the historical figures François-Marie-Thomas Chevalier de Lorimier, his wife Henriette and Charles Hindelang.
Pierre Falardeau said that Telefilm Canada approved Michel Brault's 1999 movie Quand je serai parti... vous vivrez encore as an excuse to initially deny funds for 15 février 1839. It released in the United States by Lionsgate on January 26, 2001. It won four Prix Jutra for Actor (Luc Picard), Supporting Actress (Sylvie Drapeau), Art Direction and Sound.
Synopsis
Ce film relate les 24 dernières heures de deux patriotes canadiens condamnés à la pendaison, à la suite de la rébellion des Patriotes en 1837 et en 1838. Parmi ceux-ci figure François-Marie-Thomas Chevalier de Lorimier, un héros canadien-français.Actors

Deux cents ans après la conquête de 1760 par l'armée anglaise, des Québécois prennent les armes pour l'indépendance de leur pays. Le Front de libération du Québec (FLQ), renouant avec la lutte des Patriotes de 1837, passe à l'action armée : attaques de casernes, vols d'armes, vols d'explosifs, vol à main armée de financement, dynamitages, etc. Année après année, vagues après vagues, les réseaux du FLQ sont démantelés par la police, pour renaître aussitôt. Pour répondre à la répression et faire libérer leurs camarades emprisonnés, des militants du FLQ déclenchent L'opération libération.

Speak White est un poème en langue française composé par l'écrivaine québécoise Michèle Lalonde en 1968. Il a été récité pour la première fois en 1970 et publié en 1974 aux éditions de l'Hexagone, à Montréal. Il dénonce la mauvaise situation des francophones au Québec et prend le ton d'une plainte collective contre les Québécois anglophones. En 1980, Speak White est porté à l'écran par les polémistes Pierre Falardeau et Julien Poulin. Le film, d'une durée de six minutes, met en scène l'actrice Marie Eykel lisant le poème de Lalonde.

Au Québec, dans un établissement pénitentiaire, la fête annuelle «Party» avec des amuseurs et de l'effeuillage est programmée. Tous les prisonniers se rassemblent dans le théâtre pour pouvoir profiter de ce spectacle. Mais tous n'ont pas l'humeur à la joie. Un homme nommé Boyer est envoyé au «trou» pour avoir été pris avec de l'argent en sa possession. Alors que sa femme, qui aurait pu le voir ce soir-là, est sur la scène et chante pour les prisonniers. C'est alors que son mari se suicide; au même moment, un prisonnier fait une évasion bien préparée, à l'aide d'un déguisement de femme.

The Duke Philippe de Beauvais smuggles his own son into the prison cell where Louis XVII is kept. Thus Louis XVII can escape unnoticed to England. Unfortunately the aerostat, steered by Duke Philippe de Beauvais, lands accidentally on a remote island. There an American spinster, Virginia Traill, takes care of the strange child. She finds the dauphin profoundly traumatised and not interested in becoming a king. Meanwhile Louis' uncle in Vienna has declared himself the new French king. In order to safeguard his claim on the throne, he sends assassins who shall murder the dauphin. Being unaware of the exchange, he has Richard de Beauvais killed. But now the dauphin's torturers recognise they have been deceived. Informed by a message of an English spy they send a ship to the island where the real dauphin hides. They attack the house of Virginia Traill and stop at nothing to detect the dauphin's hiding-place.

In 1982, Ari Folman was a nineteen-year-old infantry soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In 2006, he meets with a friend from his army service period, who tells him of the nightmares connected to his experiences from the Lebanon War. Folman is surprised to find that he remembers nothing from that period. Later that night he has a vision from the night of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, the reality of which he is unable to clearly recall. In his memory, he and his soldier comrades are bathing at night by the seaside in Beirut under the light of flares descending over the city.

The film opens with George W. Bush (Josh Brolin), dreaming of being a baseball player and is in the stadium with a empty crowd cheering for him. In 1966, Bush endures an alcohol-fueled initiation by his fellow Yale University students as a Delta Kappa Epsilon pledge. During the hazing, Bush successfully recalls the names and nicknames of many of the fraternity members, and states that his family's political legacy is one in which he has no interest. A little later, after Bush is jailed in New Jersey for rowdiness following a football game, his father, George H. W. Bush (James Cromwell), states that he will help Bush, but for the last time. Following his graduation from Yale, Bush takes a job at an oil patch back in his home state of Texas, but he quits after only a few weeks. In 1972, "Junior" reveals his real aspirations in a father-son talk: working in professional baseball, in some capacity. Soon afterwards, Bush is accepted into Harvard Business School with the help of his father. That night after drinking heavily, Bush crashes his car into his family estate and challenges his father to a fistfight. His brother, Jeb (Jason Ritter) intervenes and stops the fight.

H. L. Hunley takes his ship, the H.L. Hunley, out in the Charleston, South Carolina harbor and it sinks with all hands. As the blockade still needs to be broken, Brig. Gen. P. G. T. Beauregard has the ship raised and puts George E. Dixon in charge. He starts looking for a crew and after some difficulty, finally finds enough volunteers to man it. They practice cranking the propeller. The crew don’t all get along with each other. Dixon flashes back to the Battle of Shiloh, where a gold coin given to him by his wife (who was later killed in a steamboat explosion caused by a drifting mine), deflected a bullet and saved his life. They take the ship down and sit on the bottom to see how long they can stay down and almost get stuck. The Union navy is warned about the sub. The crew votes that if after an attack they are stuck on the bottom, they will open the valves, flooding the ship rather than suffocate. They go out to attack the U.S.S. Wabash, but the attack fails. Following the warning the ship has draped metal chain netting over the side. Also the rope which was attached to the ‘torpedo’ they were to release under the ship gets loose and becomes entangled in the propeller. It has to be cut loose while sailors on the Wabash shoot at the Hunley. Beauregard proposes putting the torpedo at the end of a long spar. The USS Housatonic is ordered to change its position in the harbor and always be ready to steam, meaning it can’t hang metal netting over the side. The second in command Lt. Alexander is ordered to Mobile, Alabama and a young soldier who had been volunteering to join the crew is allowed to do so. On February 17, 1864, the C.S.S. H. L. Hunley sails out and attacks the U.S.S. Housatonic. The torpedo is rammed into the side of the ship. It blows up and the Housatonic is the first ship ever sunk by a sub. A bullet from the ship breaks a window in the conning tower and wounds Dixon. The explosion opens the seams on the Hunley and it takes on water. It settles to the bottom and they can’t release the ballast or pump the ship. As agreed the crew opens the valves and the ship floods, killing the entire crew.
