Synopsis
Ex-gloire de la comédie, Picchio tombe amoureux de Renata, jeune infirmière de la Villa Serena, la maison de retraite pour anciens acteurs de théâtre dans laquelle il vient d'arriver. Il décide de la suivre à Rome, pour vivre la première aventure amoureuse de sa retraite.Actors

En 1946, Marco prend du bon temps et navigue sur le Lac Majeur. Lors d'une escale il se fait aborder par Maître Orimbelli qui semble s'ennuyer. Ce dernier l'invite à dîner chez lui et lui présente sa femme irascible et sa belle-sœur Matilde, dont le mari est mort à la guerre. Orimbelli insiste pour que Marco reste dormir dans la plus belle chambre de la villa : la chambre de l'évêque. Le lendemain, Marco, qui doit aller rejoindre Charlotte, une amie, trouve Orimbelli qui l'attend sur son bateau. Celui-ci, jouant l'apitoiement, lui force la main pour profiter du voyage. Marco cède. Il ne tardera pas à découvrir qu'Orimbelli est prêt à tout pour arriver à ses fins avec les femmes qui passent à sa portée.

Le film retrace les tribulations de Marcella Valmarin (Agostina Belli), pendant le Fascisme, son écroulement, puis pendant l'après-guerre. The film is set in Rome in 1922. Two friends returning from the First World War, Rocchetti and Cavazza, participating in the Fascist Party, are convinced that the movement and the leader Mussolini can guarantee a period of peace, growth and stability in an Italy torn destruction of the bombs. Unfortunately the joys of the two friends soon vanish, as Mussolini proves to be a tyrant, who performs after the March on Rome. When Rocchetti try to rebel and autolicenziarsi from the party, is beaten to death. Fortunately Gavazza save him, and run away with the friend. La scène ayant été censurée, il doit aller le chercher dans les archives de la Censure. 3/ Guillaume « Dents longues » de Luigi Filippo D'Amico : Une chaîne de télévision organise un casting pour sélectionner le nouveau présentateur du journal télévisé. Bertone réussi tous les tests, mais sa denture chevaline pousse le jury à vouloir l'éliminer sans lui en révéler la cause. Bertone se révèle inébranlable.

Set in Rome and its surroundings, the film tells in a frighteningly realistic, ruthless and grotesque the evil of two powerful men of Italy in the seventies: a Director of illegal buildings (Vittorio Gassman), extremist fascist, and an upright judge, cynical looking in part to the Italian law (Ugo Tognazzi). Both can not stand each other, given the contrasts between the two men in any social, political and philosophical. Everyone hates each other and would like to delete it, but just because of the bad example that the two men give power to the people, many Italians are adversely affected because of cheating and rudeness of the fascist manufacturer and the communist magistrate. The director Dino Risi underlines the misdeeds and the weakness of the Italian people to react accordingly, by focusing on the story of these two men who are each other's opposite of the net.

The film features several episodes in which actors Ugo Tognazzi and Vittorio Gassman are the greatest performers. The themes of the short stories are intended to offer a clear picture of the habits, vices, of cheating and taste typical of the majority of Italians in the Sixties. Obviously the characters and funny situations are written and staged in a way that touches the limits of satire and coarseness, however many of these issues are still recognized by the Italian company. The satire of the episodes affects people of both noble origins of poor people, both political and police officers who abuse their power and, last but not least the middle classes. To remember are the episodes as The Monster in which a man who has killed the whole family and has barricaded himself in the house was arrested by two policemen (Gassman and Tognazzi) and photographed with the present. However, although the man is a murderer, the two cops are real monsters of ugliness. Another episode to remember is Education in which the parent Ugo Tognazzi educates his son (Ricky Tognazzi) being a perfect cheat to appear more masculine and smart, to pay much less and not plunging into heavy or boring situation would certainly not born. He instructs his son in beating their classmates who do not want him to copy the tasks and lie age when he went to the fair to not pay the ticket. When the child grows, the first thing it will do is make amends for his teachings repaying his father with a pistol and with the theft of all his possessions.
