Synopsis
Kathy et John forment un jeune couple idéal, uni et très amoureux. Lorsque Kathy apprend qu'elle est enceinte, tous leurs projets semblent remis en question. Ils décident de faire au mieux pour privilégier les études et la carrière de John. Kathy prendra ainsi soin du bébé tandis que John poursuivra son cursus scolaire à l'université d'Harvard. Ils se débrouillent ainsi jusqu'à ce que Kathy abandonne son fils et son mari car cette vie ne lui convient pas, elle retourne chez elle . John se retrouve seul à élever son bébé tout en poursuivant ses études et en travaillant à mi-temps. Il sera aidé par la femme chez qui il loue une chambre, ainsi que ses professeurs.Actors

Set in 1979, the film focuses on a Seattleite couple, police officer and former park ranger Roger Lewis (Bancroft), and 22-year-old waitress Denise Harris (Milano). They are invited by businessman Wylie Bennett (Fraser) to Alaska to head out to the fictional wilderness of Surprise Bay and find a goldmine. If they are successful in retrieving gold, they are awarded 10% of the profit. Denise is hesitant to travel into the wilderness, though blindly follows her boyfriend, who regards the exploring as a great adventure. They are flown to the location, roughly 75 miles away from the nearest 'civilization', with just a dog and a radio with bad reception. There, they are set up in a cabin, where they spend their first couple of weeks. When they realize that their food supply is running out and that nobody is coming to help them, they become afraid. Roger considers shooting a deer, but Denise opposes such due to her vegetarianism.

Travis Freeman, a local football star, is an average high school junior. Living in the town of Corbin, Kentucky, his inner circle includes his supporting parents, girlfriend, and childhood best friend, Jerry Baker (Bram Hoover) Life is normal for Travis until one day he is stricken with a series of severe headaches and a bacterial meningitis infection. With the help of his parents, best friend, Jerry, another childhood friend, Ashley, and his mobility coach, Travis pulls through and is able to adapt to his new disability and starts his senior year at Corbin High School. Every day after school, Travis attends football practice, but watches, with help from his friend, Ashley, from the sidelines. His coach and mentor, Coach Farris, approaches him one day about joining the team again. Without much convincing, Travis rejoins the football team as a center and helps the team turn around their losing season advancing to the state playoffs.

Jenna (McGregor) is a teenage competitive skater who has been coached by her overprotective, high strung, gun-obsessed mother (De Mornay). When she quits competing and decides to go to college in Vancouver, her mother becomes very upset and tries to prevent her from leaving home; finally locking her in a hot sauna until she agrees to stay. Her father gives her money behind her mother's back and Jenna leaves home. Her mother goes to Canada to force her to come back home and resume competition. Once there, the mother becomes increasing unstable as she first tries to bring a handgun into Canada, tries to procure one from a drug dealer, and finally has sex with a policeman who gets a gun for her. After Jenna brings her father to Vancouver to fly her mother home that day, the mother instead insists, against Jenna's protests, that she will drive herself back. The father leaves and that night the mother breaks into Jenna's apartment and forces her to pack and drive home by gun point. Before they get out of Canada, the mother shoots a squeegee man who attempts to clean the windows. Shaking she orders Jenna to stop driving and runs into a tunnel in a park where she pulls the gun out and begs Jenna to shoot her. A struggle ensues over the gun with the mother getting a grazed in the head, knocking her off of her feet. As Jenna cradles her she acknowledges to Jenna that she must let her go. The movie ends with the mother returning to the United States the next morning with a bandage on her head.
