Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, « L'Alchimiste d'acier ») est un film de fantasy japonais coécrit et réalisé par Fumihiko Sori, sorti en 2017. Il s’agit de l’adaptation du manga éponyme de Hiromu Arakawa.

Il est premier du box-office japonais lors de son premier week-end. Il s'agit de la première adaptation du manga éponyme de Hiromu Arakawa avec des acteurs réels.

Synopsis

Au début du XX siècle, dans un monde où l'alchimie est une activité extrêmement développée et respectée, deux frères, Edward (Ryōsuke Yamada ) et Alphonse Elric, tentent une technique secrète de transmutation humaine. L'expérience tourne cependant mal et Alphonse perd son corps tout entier tandis qu'Edward perd sa jambe gauche. Ce-dernier sacrifie alors son bras droit pour sauver l'âme de son frère en l'attachant à une armure de métal. Il reçoit ensuite des prothèses mécaniques appelées « automail » en remplacement de ses membres manquants.

The film starts in sepia toned Kansas in the early 1900s. Dorothy Gale lives with her dog Toto on the farm of her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. A sixth-century post-Roman kingdom called Urland is being terrorized by a 400-year-old dragon named Vermithrax Pejorative. Tyrian does so and Ulrich dies instantly, to the horror of his young apprentice Galen Bradwarden (MacNicol) and his elderly servant Hodge (Sydney Bromley). Hodge cremates Ulrich's body and places the ashes in a leather pouch, informing Galen that Ulrich wanted his ashes spread over a lake of burning water.

At the beginning of the film, we learn that the story takes place in one of many alternate worlds, in which a person's soul is contained within an animal companion called a dæmon (pronounced demon). The Magisterium, represented as a unified religious power, exercises power in the secular world. Lyra Belacqua, an orphan that resides in Jordan College, in a city that resembles Oxford, with her dæmon Pantalaimon (Pan), accidentally witnesses a Magisterium member poison her uncle's bottle of Tokay. Lyra then warns her uncle, Lord Asriel, who instructs her to remain in hiding. Lyra watches Asriel give a presentation regarding Dust, a particle that the Magisterium has forbidden the mention of. The college gives Asriel a grant to fund a northern expedition.

Thorin and his company are being pursued by Azog and his Orc party following the events of the previous film. They are ushered along by Gandalf to the nearby home of Beorn, a skin-changer who can take the form of the bear. Upon entering the forest they lose their way and are ensnared by giant spiders. Bilbo then sets about freeing the dwarves with the help of his recently acquired invisibility ring. He subsequently drops the Ring and first begins to understand its dark influence after he brutally kills a centipede-like creature to retrieve it.

Calcifer offers to break the witch's curse in exchange for Sophie's help in breaking the spell he's under, which keeps him bound to the house. When Howl appears, Sophie announces that Calcifer has hired her as a cleaning lady for the house.
