Japan, 1908. Motivated by poverty in the country and few job prospects, many Japanese have emigrated in search of opportunities. Vijay Chatterjee, a lonely widower is a successful restaurateur in Montreal. He hires Maarya, who recently emigrated from Calcutta, to work in his restaurant.
