Jorge Perugorría Rodríguez (aka "Pichi") (born 13 August 1965) is a Cuban actor. He is well known for his part as Diego in Strawberry and Chocolate (original title in Spanish Fresa y Chocolate (co-directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío). He recently acted in Steven Soderbergh's Che, with Benicio del Toro. He lives in Santa Fe, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Havana, with his wife and their four children.

Octobre 1965, New York. Les traditionnels géants des Fêtes de Pampelune sont invités à défiler sur la 5ème avenue. Mais les autorités américaines interdisent la participation des deux géants noirs dans le contexte de la ségrégation raciale. C’en est trop pour Manex qui, fidèle à ses convictions et son tempérament rebelle, fausse compagnie à ses collègues. Il part à la découverte du New York de la lutte pour les droits civiques et de la contre-culture. Il est alors loin de s’imaginer que c’est le début pour lui d’un périple loin de son Pays Basque natal, entre Cuba et Mexico, en passant par Alger et Montréal. Il y croisera des militants de tous bords, des agents de la CIA, des femmes passionnées et révolutionnaires… Entre voyage initiatique et odyssée libertaire, Manex traverse le monde en ébullition de cette fin des années 60, celui de la Guerre Froide et des mouvements de libération des peuples.

The plot is around two couples. One pair is Perugorría and Spanish actress Cuca Escribano; the other is Cruz and Gabriela Griffith. Mais il réapparait méconnaissable en Bolivie, où il prépare secrètement la Révolution latino-américaine avec ses camarades cubains et quelques Boliviens. Cette campagne montre toute sa détermination et son abnégation. Elle explique en partie le symbole et le héros populaire qu'est resté au fil du temps le « Che ». L'échec de cette révolution marquera sa mort.

Part 1: The Argentine In Havana 1964, Che Guevara is interviewed by Lisa Howard who asks him if reform throughout Latin America might not blunt the “message of the Cuban Revolution.” In 1955, at a gathering in Mexico City, Guevara first meets Fidel Castro. He listens to Castro’s plans and signs on as a member of the July 26th Movement. There is a return to 1964 for Guevara’s address before the United Nations General Assembly, where he makes an impassioned speech against American imperialism, and defends the executions his regime has committed, declaring “this is a battle to the death.”

In 1908 Titoe (Kyoko Tsukamoto) arrives in Brazil, a Japanese coming to the country in attempt to get money from work and then return to Japan to be able to follow her life in the home country. In 1935, now with her daughter Shinobu (Nobu McCarthy) born and without enough money to return to Japan, Titoe decides to buy her first plot of land in Londrina. The Second World War, and its consequences for Japan end up further delaying Titoe's plans to return to the country, especially after Kazumi and Maria (Tamlyn Tomita), her grandchildren were born. Maria marries Gabriel (Jorge Perrugoría), gaijin son of a Spanish father and Italian mother, with whom he has two children: Yoko (Lissa Diniz) and Pedro. The business of Gabriel is going well, until the seizure made by the Collor Government in 1990 leads to bankruptcy. Without alternatives, Maria and the children will live with Titoe while Gabriel embarks to Kobe, intending to work temporarily and raise money for the family.
