Synopsis
Madhavan (Sreenivasan) is trying to get a job for his unemployed friend Sethu (Mohanlal). When a spate of robberies takes place in a middle-class neighbourhood, Madhavan has Sethu pose as Raam Singh, a Nepali émigré, to fulfill the residents' need for a Gorkha security guard. A police officer (Thilakan) and his daughter (Karthika) move into the neighbourhood, bringing back memories from the past for Sethu.Actors

The story revolves around a house owner, Gopalakrishna Panikkar, who is struggling with debt incurred during the wedding of his two sisters. He needs to force his tenants to vacate, so that the house can be sold and the debt repaid. The tenants do not want to leave for reasons of their own. Nadodikattu opens by introducing the two protagonists, Ramdas/Dasan (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan), who are employed as ill-paid peons. A commerce graduate, and proud of that, Dasan frequently vents his frustration in having to serve lesser qualified superiors and having to settle with lesser than what he feels he deserves in life. Vijayan is his less educated roommate and sole friend. Their relationship is one full of tension, with Dasan adopting a superior stance on the account of his education and good looks, which fiercely rattles Vijayan. Several comic situations later in the film borrow from this aspect of their characters. Dasan frequently bosses over Vijayan to do all the household chores.

Shekhara Menon (Thilakan) is retired income tax officer from Mumbai and has now settled in a remote village in Kerala. He owns some land and a house where he and his three daughters live together and leads a calm, silent and happy life. The story is about Jayakanthan (Kunchacko Boban) who comes to claim his father Narendran's property in their native village. Premachandran (Mohanlal) is a carpenter who lives along with his father, Balan Master (Bharath Gopi), and works along with his friend, Manikandan (Innocent). They are now working on a house near the house of a rich landlord. Kanmani (Meera Jasmine), who was sold by her mother, works in that house as a servant and is ill-treated. Seethamma (KPAC Lalitha) lives along with her daughter, Kumari (Muthumani), who has a liking towards Premachandran. One night, Premachandran goes to his workplace to take his tools. He sees Kanmani leaving the house and is puzzled. He follows her. She was on the verge of committing suicide when Premachandran rescues her. He gives her shelter in one room in a building owned by Chettiyar (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), telling Chettiyar that his friend did not get the bus to go back home. Kanmani dresses up as a boy by the name of Velayuthan Kutty and soon starts working with Manikandan and Premachandran. Balan Master starts liking the disguised boy. One day, Premachandran tells Kanmani that he has planned to rescue her by sending her to Tamil Nadu to work in a banian company where Premachandran's friend is working. Kanmani refueses to go. Premachandran accidentally confesses to Manikandan that Velayuthan Kutty is actually the missing Kanmani. Manikandan has no peace and shouts out the truth in the middle of the night. Two policemen, accidentally hear this and take Premachandran and Kanmani into custody.
