The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, Deepti Naval, Mukesh Khanna and Mehmood. Its music was composed by Naushad. The movie bombed at the box office despite featuring top actors of the time. Shahrukh was 30 years and Manisha 25 years old when the movie was released.
Synopsis
Guddu Bahadur (Shah Rukh Khan) is the only child in the Bahadur family, consisting of Advocate Vikram (Mukesh Khanna) and his wife, Kavita (Deepti Naval). While Kavita is a devout and a religious Hindu, Vikram is an atheist. Guddu and Salina Gupta (Manisha Koirala) are in love. One day while driving, they meet with an accident and Salina loses her sight. Guddu blames himself and so do Salina's parents. Guddu is asked to keep away from Salina. Salina herself knows that the accident was not Guddu's fault, but would not like to meet Guddu and be a burden on him. Guddu overhears a conversation between their family doctor and his dad and he comes to know that he has brain tumor. He has only a few more months to live. He wants to donate his eyes to the hospital so Salina can benefit from them, but his dad will not even consider this. Things take a turn for the worse, when Guddu decides to go to court to assert his right to donate his eyes, his dad ends in the hospital and so does Guddu. Kavita couldn't bear the trauma of her husband's illness and her son's disease, thus she decides to devote herself to god for five days without drinking a sip of water. Her prayers get answered and her husband's life is saved and her son's operation is successful. She dies in the feet of god while praying and her eyes get donated to Salina. Salina and Guddu get married and are blessed with twins and they live happily ever after.Actors

Amar Kant Varma (Shahrukh Khan) is a Program executive for All India Radio. He is dispatched from New Delhi to cover festivities in Northeast India. On his way there, during a rainy night, Amar stops at Haflong train station to catch Baraks Valley express, as the train runs late, Amar meets a mysterious woman by herself who asks him for a cup of tea. When he returns with the tea, he watches her board the next train with three male passengers. Later, Amar spots the same woman in Silchar. He attempts to talk to her but she says she cannot recall meeting him before. As part of his news reporting assignment, for the occasion of fifty years of Indian Independence, Amar interviews many citizens of Barak Valley, and an extremist leader, who claim that the reason behind human rights violations, and poverty in the region is due to Indian Government, and that the Liberationists do not wish to enter into any dialogue with the government, and further justify their resistance in Utthar Purv.

Shekhar (Sanjay Kapoor) and Nandini (Karisma Kapoor) are friends living in Canada with their two uncles. Shekhar proposes to Nandini and she says yes and now they have a young son named Raja. Shekhar hears breaking news of violence in India, the family journeys to his ancestral house in rural North-East State of India and Nandini is shocked to see that Shekhar's family is embroiled in feudal gang wars. Shekhar's father is Narasimha (Nana Patekar). Shekhar tries to bring peace between the warring gangs, but is attacked by the rival gang & killed on way to a re-conciliatory meeting that he wanted to attend on his father's behalf. Nandini feels insecure and decides to leave India with her son but Narasimha imprisons them. Desperate to escape, she goes on a difficult journey to return to Canada with the help of Shekhar's mother and sister. Wanted by Narasimha, Nandini seeks help from drifter Jai Singh (Shahrukh Khan) who after hesitation, helps her and her son board a train to Jaipur. In order to protect Nandini and her son, Jai fights with the goon and dies after killing the goons. Meanwhile, Shekhar's mother begs his father to let Nandini and her son go. However, Narasimha goes but at the airport, he gets emotional and after kissing his grandson, allows them to go. The films ends with Nandini along with her son boarding a plane to Canada.

Rizwan Khan is a Muslim child who grew up with his brother Zakir and his mother Razia Khan in a middle-class family in the section of Mumbai. Rizwan is different from other children, however. Rahul Khanna (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali Sharma (Kajol) are best friends in St. Xavier's College. The college principal Mr. Malhotra (Anupam Kher) has a beautiful daughter Tina (Rani Mukerji), who comes to St. Xavier's from London to finish her degree. She becomes friends with both Rahul and Anjali. When Anjali realizes that she is in love with Rahul, she is encouraged by her motherly guardian Rifat Bi (Himani Shivpuri) to tell him so. Instead, Anjali is left heartbroken when Rahul tells her that he loves Tina. Anjali decides to leave college and shares a tearful goodbye with Rahul, going away from Rahul and Tina's lives forever. Tina then realizes that she came between two best friends. After college, Rahul marries Tina and, in a year of marriage, Tina gives birth to a baby girl. Tina has complications in her pregnancy and has little time left, so she writes eight letters to her daughter (one for each of her first eight birthdays), so that she will know her mother. Before dying, Tina asks Rahul to promise her to name their daughter Anjali.
