Atul Agnihotri is an Indian film producer, director and former actor. He started his Bollywood career as an actor but found success as a producer.

He is best known for his debut film Sir (1993), which emerged as a commercial and critical success. He could not gain much success in his acting career and shifted to direction in 2004. In 2011 he produced Bollywood blockbuster Bodyguard.

Biography

Atul was born into a Punjabi Brahmin family. Atul is married to Alvira Khan who is scriptwriter Salim Khan's daughter. His brothers-in-law are actors Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. His cousin is actress Rati Agnihotri. He has two children - Ayaan and Alizeh.

Vijay Verma (Saif Ali Khan) is a rich and selfish playboy who enjoys playing with women by giving a fake name to every girl. His friend, Gopal, (Atul Agnihotri) tells him several times to stop this act otherwise he will regret it. One day, Vijay meets a lovely tourist, Seema (Pooja Bhatt) and falls in love with her after a few meetings. During a separation, Seema sends Vijay a letter about her father agreeing to marriage with Vijay. He replies saying that he will leave immediately to get to her place. This is when the narrative introduces a shocking heel turn. Seema's father arrives at the airport and is greeted by his future son-in-law, and, shortly after, Seema's marriage ceremony takes place.

After receiving a generous grant from the American Medical Association Dr Duke Chawla (Bobby Deol) who always gives hope to his patients, proposes to his sweetheart, Pooja (Kangana Ranaut), and both arrange to get married soon. While returning home that night, he meets with an accident and wakes up in the East West Hospital paralce of recovery. Shattered and devastated, he is in for more trauma and shock when he finds out that Pooja will have nothing to do anymore. Upset, bitter and in despair, he loses his will to live, refuses to take medicine nor any treatment, and awaits death. One day, Roshan (Dwij Yadav) a young boy enters Duke's life to rekindle thf hope again. He starts telling him stories of the world seen outside his window and motivates him to take his medicines and start his physiotherapy, day by day Duke starts improving and one fine day he realises that Roshan was suffering from terminal cancer and he died leaving a new life for Duke.

The story revolves around a big group of friends consisting of Atul (Akshay Kumar), Vijay (Sunil Shetty), Divya (Manisha Koirala), Vivek (Sonu Nigam), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani), Abdul (Arshad Warsi) and Rajesh (Rajat Bedi) amongst others. Divya is a reincarnated soul who herself is unaware of this. When Rajesh raped Divya, she commits suicide thinking that all of her friends were involved in the rape. The rest of the friends are completely unaware of anything and are innocent. When Kapil (Armaan Kohli), the lover of Divya's previous life finds out about her death, he comes back to life to get revenge from all of the group. As a punishment, Rajesh is strangled to death first. This is followed by Abdul being electrocuted. Although Atul & his other friends don't have a chance to tell Divya that they're truly innocent, they're not going to forgive Divya & Kapil because two innocent people including Abdul are already dead. Rajesh was the only guilty person. It would've been better for Divya & Kapil to ask them if Abdul was guilty or not? A priest (Raj Babbar) gives the group of friends a necklace and assures them that they cannot be harmed when they are wearing the necklace. Atul doesn't believe in any of this. However, when he is attacked by Kapil, he realizes he survived because the necklace was stuck on his hand.

Born and brought up in a small village by foster parents, Vikram alias Vicky (Saif Ali Khan) comes to Bombay - the big city - to find his fortune. He soon becomes "Bambai ka babu" Then Vicky is entrusted with a task of subduing Masterji's rival, Jaya Shetty (Vishwajeet Pradhan), which he does easily. Then instead of being disposed off, Jaya is asked to make friends with Masterji, so as to benefit the latter. But soon Vicky comes to know of Masterji's plan with Jaya to incite communal violence as a means of indirectly winning the elections, he decides to sabotage their plans. Angered at this, Masterji orders the death of Vicky at any cost. Vicky has nowhere to turn to, except to live in fear for the rest of his life, as sooner or later Jaya and Masterji's men will track him down.

Hawaldar finds an abandoned new born baby boy in the gutter of Kamathipura, a red light area of Bombay. A prostitute, meanwhile gave birth to another baby boy. She decides to educate him and requests Hawaldar to give him a father's name. Hawaldar's wife does not accept the child and leaves for her parents home. Hawaldar adopts the child and names him Ajay while the prostitute's son is named Shlok. Both are admitted to School and become friends. Shlok does well in studies whereas Ajay takes up gambling. Shlok falls in love with Pooja, daughter of J.K - a millionaire. Ajay does not believe in love and is a cynic. Havaldar tries his best to get Ajay a job but Ajay finds that it is difficult for him to work in a corrupt society. Ekka Seth is a terror in the prostitutes basti and he exploits the innocent girl and forces them into prostitution. Shlok graduates and completes his M.B.A. Ajay wins a crore rupees in gambling and encourages Shlok to pursue his project. Ekka and his men abduct and kill Hawaldar's daughter.Ajay decides to avenge this and proceeds to kill Ekka's men and frees the sex workers from his clutches. He then takes on Ekka and manages to kill him, but is grieviusly wounded in the fight. The final scene shows Ajay dying to protect his brother and attaining martyrdom.

Baba and Avinash are brothers who lives in a shanty house with their widowed mother, who makes a living as a housemaid. One of his first assignments is to be apprehend and arrest Baba and Nawab - much to his shock, as he had never associated his very own brother of having any criminal background. Avinash must now decide to proceed on with apprehending Baba and Nawab, or quit from the police force.

Pratap Tilak(Nana Patekar) is the grandson of Bheeshmanarayan Tilak a freedom fighter. Pratap starts gambling and this leads to a spoiling attack of Bheeshmanarayan as he dies. Pratap's mother Durgadevi(Farida Jalal) enraged of all this asks him to leave the village and go away. Pratap comes to Mumbai where he saves life of chawl owner, Laxminath's(Paresh Rawal) son Atul(Atul Agnihotri). Laxminath decides to keep Pratap with him. When they grow up Atul falls in love with Mamta(Mamta Kulkarni), who is the daughter of a builder named Yograj(Tinu Anand). Pratap keeps laughing at press reporter Megha Dixit (Dimple Kapadia) who lives in the chawl and keeps on fighting injustice by writing about it in newspapers. Pratap teaches people to become strong and fight for themselves instead of waiting for other people to help them. Chattursingh Chita(Danny Denzongpa) and Yograj plan to build a resort and the place they arrange communal riots mass killings and burn the houses of people. Laxminath is murdered by Chattursingh Chita. Pratap learns that Megha's parents were murdered by Chattursingh Chita and she was raped by him. He proposes marriage to her. Mamta leaves her father's house and comes to Atul's house. Pratap kills the corrupted ministers, the judge and the police officer. He is caught and ordered to be hanged till death. Chattursingh Chita plans to kill Pratap but dies by Pratap's hands. This story is about a brave person who decides to face injustice and is ready to lay his lifedown for this cause.
