Hagalu Vesha (Kannada: ಹಗಲು ವೇಷ) is a 2000 Indian Kannada film directed, written and scripted by Baraguru Ramachandrappa starring Shiva Rajkumar and Reshma in the lead roles. It is the story of a man who revolts against British rule.
The film was critically acclaimed upon release and won numerous State awards. The music composed by Hamsalekha was also received positively.
Bhagirathi (Bhavana) dreams of a tank for her village and inspired by her, Maadevaraya (Kishore), the son of Mallanagowda (Srinath), convinces his father to construct one for the community. When Maadevaraya and Bhagirathi fall in love, class differences come in the way. But when they decide to end their lives, Mallanagowda is moved to solemnise their marriage on the tank's site.
The only character in the film is of an illustrator and a painter called as Shanti. An international peace body chooses her to create the logo of a world peace conference. In order to draw inspiration, Shanti travels to a picturesque hilly area where she gets accosted by a group of terrorists. They kidnap her and put forth a demand that she should take them to the conference as her assistants. Their ultimate plan is to blow up the conference hall. The main storyline of the film is the way in which Shanti solves this problem and saves the conference.
