In the film Andy Shrub (played by Peters) is a struggling actor who seems to be typecast as "the goofy best friend'" but wants to be a leading man. At a birthday party he wishes that he looked like John Stamos before blowing out the candles on his cake. He then realizes that whenever he is photographed or videotaped he looks exactly like Stamos. He is then cast in a sitcom as John Stamos. When John Stamos (playing himself), finds out about this he angrily goes to the studio and argues with Andy and his producer, Norman (played E.E. Bell). The movie ends with the real John Stamos being killed.

London Betty (Nicole Lewis) is the plucky British journalist who gets a newspaper job in the small American town of Pharisee. Nancy Nestor (Wendie Malick) is the perfect wife and mother now at her wits' end when her teenage genius son Hal (Justin Long) looks himself in the bathroom for months to work on a mathematical equation which involves studying of Lacy Baldwin (Danica McKellar), a cheerleader next door, as she bounces up and down on a trampoline. The film begins with a black man molesting a white man who has trouble remembering events for more than 15 minutes at a time. The film then cuts forward in time to two talkative hitmen, Sam (Neil Barton) and Harvey (Eric Hoffman), who mistakenly believe Johnny Vince (Darren Keefe), a hipper-than-thou swingin' hepcat and band trombone player, to be the third member of their gang, assembled by their evil crime boss to pull a "botched robbery" in Las Vegas. Along the way, they take a beautiful demented hostage – the lovely, desperate and lonely cashier Julianne (Paget Brewster). Little do they know that she will forever change their pathetic lives.
