The film was released in France in September 2002, with subsequent screenings at various film festivals followed by releases around the world. At the 75th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for Best Short Film, but did not win.
Synopsis
A man on a crowded metro train gathers the attention of the passengers in his train car, saying that he has an announcement to make. The passengers at first seem to think that the man is one of the typical train-entertainers that frequent metro trains. But the man says that he is simply looking for love. He says that he is well off, educated, and not unattractive, and that he is simply looking for someone to share life's precious moments with. After a long speech (and brief debate with another male passenger), the man says that any interested women should get off at the next stop. A woman (who has been shown smiling throughout the man's speech) promptly stands up as soon as the train slows down, and steps off to the platform. Obviously excited, she is waiting for the man to step off to join her. As she stares his way, the man tells her through the closing train door, "Miss, it was only a skit..." The train doors shut and train speeds off leaving the woman standing alone and dejected on the platform.Actors

Charlie Bellow, a polite, kind-hearted young man, hopes he will one day secure a managerial position with the Tiller King agricultural company, where his father works as a maintenance mechanic. When he starts business school in New York City, he hears news that his cousin has suddenly died. His friend suggests that they play a game in which they say whether they would sleep with any of the women they see while sitting in the park, which is where Charlie sees Jordan for the first time, but leaves to meet his grieving aunt who wants to set him up with someone. On the subway platform, Charlie sees Jordan drunkenly leaning over the guard rail and saves her from being hit by an oncoming train. Taking responsibility for the drunken, blacked-out girl, he sobers her up and begins a relationship with her over several weeks. While becoming fascinated with Jordan, he soon comes face-to-face with her volatile personality and learns more about her past through wild, drunken dates. Among other things, Jordan tells Charlie that her fiancé recently left her, tells a Tiller King representative she is pregnant with Charlie's child, sabotages Charlie's job interview with another Tiller King representative, and gives a piano recital where she asks him to bring her a single red rose and pushes him into the sea – and then saves him. Despite this, Charlie begins to fall in love with Jordan but clashes with her father, who believes Charlie is responsible for her erratic behavior. Because of this, Jordan begins to drift away from Charlie.

The film opens just as construction has been completed on a railway connecting a mountainous regions of eastern Bosnia and western Serbia in 1992. Luka, a Serbian engineer, has moved to Bosnia from Belgrade with his mentally unstable wife, Jadranka, and his football-playing son, Miloš, to run a railway station and act as caretaker. Luka is at work preparing the opening of the railway while Miloš attempts to become a professional footballer with the Partizan team. La caméra filme l'entrée d'un tunnel, d'où jaillit un train à vapeur. La caméra se met à avancer elle-même sur la seconde voie, entrant dans le tunnel et dans le noir. Dans un compartiment de 1 classe, un homme lit son journal et fume le cigare. Devant lui, une voyageuse lit une revue. Elle lève le regard vers son voisin qui se penche et la chatouille sous le menton. Charmée, elle rit et il redouble de séduction. Il se débarrasse du journal, se lève et enlève son encombrant chapeau haut de forme. Il dépose un rapide baiser sur la bouche de la jeune dame qui pouffe de rire tandis qu'il se rassied et recoiffe son chapeau. Les rires de sa voisine l'encouragent. Il se lève de nouveau, pose sa coiffe sur la banquette et va embrasser une nouvelle fois la dame, puis se rassied, aplatissant son chapeau qu'il remet aussitôt en forme. Les deux voyageurs se replongent alors dans leur lecture. La caméra sort du tunnel.
