Ilavarasan is a 1992 Tamil drama film directed by Senthilnathan. The film features R. Sarathkumar and Sukanya in lead roles. The film had musical score by Deva and was released on 15 January 1992.

Synopsis

Mirasu (Senthilnathan) killed his elder brother Selvanayagam (Nizhalgal Ravi) and Selvanayagam's wife (C. R. Saraswathi), he tried to kill his mistress Lakshmi (Kavitha) for the inheritance. The innoncent Lakshmi was then sent in jail for Selvanayagam's murder and gave birth in jail, with the help of a police officer, she escaped from jail with her son Vijay.

Mariamma is married since several years but she doesn't have any children, she is afraid that their dynasty will disappear. To avoid this, Mariamma, her husband and her younger brother Muthu prepare a grand festival in their village with the financial help of the village rich man Rajadurai (R. Sarathkumar). In the meantime, Kaveri (Vaidehi) and Muthu (Nizhalgal Ravi) fall in love with each other but Rajadurai has an eye on Kaveri. Being the owner of the village temples, Rajadurai has the temples' keys and benefit illegally the donations. After the festival, Rajadurai betrays the villagers lying that temples incurred him heavy losses. So Muthu's family with the support of the villagers complains against Rajadurai. They obtain a favourable decision from the court. Thereafter to take revenge, Muthu's brother-in-law is killed by Rajadurai's henchman. Muthu and Kaveri ultimately get married. Few months later, Kaveri becomes pregnant. Rajadurai desires for revenge and want to destroy Muthu's dynasty. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Sakthi (R. Sarathkumar) and his best-friend Thangamani (Goundamani) are taxi-drivers in Mumbai. Sakthi fights for the Tamil community against the local rowdies who want to expel them from their area. The Tamil association of Mumbai prepares the 25th anniversary function so the association's presidents invite the pillars of the association but only one person doesn't respond for the invitation : Karpagavalli, the wife of the late founder Sandanapandian. The presidents go to Karpagavalli's village Pasumpon to invite her but they are driven out from the village. In fact, Karpagavalli (Srividya) and her relatives (Sivaranjani, Kavitha and Kokila) are held prisoners by the heartless Duraipandi (Raghuvaran) in his palace. Under pressure, Duraipandi finally lets Karpagavalli go to the function in Mumbai. In the meantime, the police officers force the Tamil community to leave their place but they refuse. So the police officers kidnap and rape the young girls under the influence of Amara Settu (K. Rajpreeth). Sakthi turns berserk, he kills all the police officers and the main antagonist Amara Settu who created conflicts between the Tamil people and Hindi people. Therefore, Sakthi becomes a hero for the community and they ask him to flee instead of surrendering. By chance, Sakthi and Thangamani take the same train as Karpagavalli. Karpagavalli asks them to come to her village and she compels Sakthi to become the palace's protector. Later, Sakthi and Thangamani try to leave the village but Karpagavalli stops them. In the process, Karpagavalli was heavily wounded by Duraipandi's henchmen.

Lakshmipathi (Prabhu) is a carefree youth who searches a job. His hot sister Kasthuri (Sumithra) sends him a letter from the city to rejoin her and the villagers compel him to leave the village, he leaves the village to rejoin his sister. His brother-in-law (Goundamani) finds a job as watchman for him. There, Dhanalakshmi (Revathi), his sister's young daughter, and him fall in love with each other. Kasthuri decides to meet some astrologers and they say that if Lakshmipathi marries Dhanalakshmi, he will certainly die. Kasthuri evicts him from her house and Sivaraman (Janagaraj), who is also in love with Dhanalakshmi, accommodates him without knowing his identity. Kasthuri convinces her daughter to forget him and later, Dhanalakshmi criticizes Lakshmipathi that he was not a well-educated. Sivaraman promises Dhanalakshmi that he will get them together. Meanwhile, Lakshmipathi returns to his village. Dhanalakshmi sends a letter, mentioning that she will marry another man. Lakshmipathi stops her marriage, convinces his sister and marry her but she dies immediately because she had taken poison by then.

Samundi (R. Sarathkumar), his mother (Varalakshmi) and his little sister Lakshmi (Sangita) shift to a little village. Ponnuthayi (Kanaka), a washerwoman, sympathize with Samundi's family and she eventually falls in love with him. Rajangam (Mansoor Ali Khan) and his brother (Uday Prakash) spread terror among the villagers. One day, the ringing of temple bells and the heralding of the festival throws him into an uncontrollable fit of rage. Ponnuthayi asked the reason of his rage and Samundi tells his tragic past. Samundi prepared his sister Rasathi's wedding and he took her to the temple. There, he clashed with some thugs. In the confrontation, Rasathi was pushed in the lake and drowned. The wedding was cancelled and Samundi's family left his village.
