In Her Place is a Canadian film. Directed by Albert Shin, the film premiered on September 4, 2014 in the Toronto International Film Festival's Discovery program.

Inspired by Korean culture's strong stigma against adoption, the film stars Kil Hae-Yeon and Ahn Ji-Hye as a mother and daughter living on a farm in Korea. When the teenage daughter becomes pregnant, a woman (Yoon Da-Kyung) arrives from Seoul to propose a secret adoption, conditional on her staying with them for the duration of the pregnancy so that she can hide the adoption when she returns to Seoul after the baby's birth. The film was shot entirely in Korea.

Shin won the Scotiabank Jay Scott Prize at the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards 2014 for the film. The film was included in the list of "Canada's Top Ten" feature films of 2014, selected by a panel of filmmakers and industry professionals organized by TIFF. The film also garnered several Canadian Screen Award nominations at the 3rd Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress (Ahn Ji Hye and Yoon Da Kyung) and Best Supporting Actress (Kil Hae Yeon).

In the near future war rages across the fictional Republic of Gilead and pollution has rendered 99% of the population sterile. Kate is a woman attempting to emigrate to Canada with her husband and daughter. While attempting to take a dirt road, they are caught by the Gilead Border Guard, who orders them to turn back or they will open fire. Kate's husband uses an automatic rifle to draw the fire, telling Kate to run, but he gets shot, Kate gets captured, whilst their daughter wanders off into the backcountry confused and unaccompanied. The authorities take Kate to a training facility with several other women, where they are all trained to become a Handmaid, a concubine for one of the privileged but barren couples who rule the country's religious fundamentalist regime. Although she resists being indoctrinated into the cult of the Handmaids, mixing Old Testament orthodoxy and misogyny with 12-step gospel and ritualized violence, Kate is soon assigned to the home of the Commander and his cold, inflexible wife, Serena Joy. There she is renamed "Offred" - "of Fred".

A pregnant Dr. Annie Watson (Haylie Duff) is going to stay with her best friend, Dr. Belinda Owens (Sarah Jones) while her husband Peter is off on a surveying job. Annie's mother-in-law Mary (Patty Duke), a seen-it-all midwife whose homeopathic remedies and folksy wisdom are at odds with Belinda’s scientific knowledge, comes along. As Belinda deals with the headaches Mary is causing, she must also address issues at home. While her adopted daughter Lillian (Courtney Halverson) discovers the joys and pains of first love, Belinda and her husband Lee (Jordan Bridges) find their own relationship suffering over Belinda’s inability to get pregnant. Just as the town learned to put its faith in Belinda as their doctor, Belinda must learn to accept that the best guidance for her own problems may come from unlikely sources. Annie gives birth to a daughter, Melinda (Lindy), and the movie ends with Mary hopping into a buggy to leave and Belinda whispering something in her ear. When her husband asks what she said, the answer is: "Oh, I just told her that I'll need a midwife soon.
