Add to a movie listIsland of Fire (Chinese: 火燒島) is a 1990 Hong Kong action film directed by Chu Yen-ping, and starring Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Sammo Hung, Tony Leung Ka-fai and Barry Wong. The film was shot in Taiwan and the Philippines in 42 days from 5 April until 17 May 1989. The film's theme song, The Last Gunshot (最後一槍) by Cui Jian, was written as a response to the 4 June 1989 Tiananmen massacre in Beijing, China.
After appearing with Chan in Killer Meteors in 1976, the film's producer and co-star, Jimmy Wang Yu, came to Chan's aid when the then young actor sought his help in settling a dispute with veteran director, Lo Wei. Chan repaid the favour by playing roles in Wang's films, which included this film as well as the 1982 film Fantasy Mission Force.
As with both of those earlier films, recent DVD and VHS releases market Island of Fire & Jackie Chan Is the Prisoner as a Jackie Chan film, displaying an image of Chan on the cover as though the lead actor. In fact, Chan only appears in a supporting role, with Tony Leung Ka-fai as the central character.
Synopsis
Wang Wei (Tony Leung Ka-fai) is a police officer who goes undercover in a prison, hoping to determine how the fingerprints on a recently killed felon could belong to a con who had been executed three months before. While inside, he is tortured for getting involved in internal matters.Actors

In year 689 of the Tang Dynasty, Wu Zetian is about to be crowned the first Empress in China despite opposition from Tang officials. To mark this occasion, she has a colossal Buddha figure built overlooking her palace. However, an official inspecting the Buddha's progress mysteriously erupts into flames. Penal officer Pei Donglai and his superior investigate and interrogates the supervising builder, a man named Shatuo, who was formerly imprisoned after he took part in a rebellion eight years ago. They find nothing, however, and Pei's superior dies soon after in the same manner as the official.

The story begins in presumably early 20th century China at a crowded train station, with Wong Fei Hung (Jackie Chan), his father Dr. Wong Kei Ying (Ti Lung), and the family servant Tso (Cheung Chi-Gwong), waiting in line. Wong Fei Hung is angry about having to pay a duty on the ginseng that Kei Ying is bringing back for a client. Mandy uses his girlfriend, Lily (Christy Chung), and partner, Gold Finger Chi (Liu Kai-chi), who are the card dealers, to help him cheat and won over HK$6 million. On the other hand, Lau lost up to HK$4 million. Afterwards, Mandy, Lau and Chan met Chung, who brought a number of his subordinates with him, at a bar. There, Lau felt he was cheated and a big fight occurred where Chung was injured. Lau found out that the three of them cheated him and he blackmails Mandy to help him go to prison and interrogate his former subordinate, Robinson Shun (Kwan Hoi-san), who stole a total of HK$300 million treasury bond from him. If Mandy manages to have Robinson tell him the whereabouts of the bond, Lau promises to pay Mandy HK$10 million as a reward. To get Mandy to prison, Lily sues him for sexual harassment. However, due to lack of evidence, the judge does not adopt the case. Mandy later gets himself to prison by throwing his shoe at the judge and he was sentenced to prison for a month for contempt of court and assaulting the judge.
