Ixcanul is a 2015 Guatemalan-French drama film written and directed by Jayro Bustamante. It was screened in the main competition section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Alfred Bauer Prize. The film has been selected as the Guatemalan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.Synopsis
Sur les pentes d'un volcan (ixcanul, en cakchiquel), une plantation de café emploie des paysans pauvres et sans terre pour des salaires misérables. Le contremaître Ignacio est le seul à parler espagnol. Les autres paysans ne connaissent que le kaqchikel, une langue maya.
