Jackal of Nahueltoro (Spanish: El Chacal de Nahueltoro) is a 1969 Chilean drama film directed by Miguel Littín. It is based on a real life event about an alcoholic peasant who killed a woman and her five children in 1960. He was sentenced to death and executed by firing squad in 1963. It was entered into the 20th Berlin International Film Festival.

Synopsis

L'histoire vraie de Jorge del Carmen Valenzuela Torres. Ce paysan analphabète et alcoolique entame à Nahueltoro (Coihueco) une liaison avec Rosa Rivas, veuve et mère de cinq enfants. Le 20 août 1960, furieux que sa compagne n’ait pas touché sa pension de veuvage, il la tue à la faux, avant d'assassiner brutalement les cinq enfants.

The 1973 Chilean coup d'état resulted in President Salvador Allende being overthrown and Augusto Pinochet coming to power in Chile. This film tells the story of the former members of Allende's cabinet, who were arrested and incarcerated in a political prison, specially designed as a concentration camp on Dawson Island, Tierra del Fuego. The camp had been used in the early 20th century to house Selk'nam and other indigenous peoples, moving them from the main island to end their interference with the large sheep ranches that had been established, as they persisted in hunting in their former territories.
