Palamattathu Varghese Mappila (Saikumar) is a wealthy Nasrani and retired captain from the Indian Army. He has four children, Christy (Mohanlal), Joji (Dileep), Jessy (Lakshmi Gopalaswamy) and Stella (Kanika). Christy is a high profile police informer who is working in Mumbai and getting high amounts as remuneration. His brother Joji goes to Italy to study theology, but later opts out of it after he falls in love with Meenakshi (Kavya Madhavan), daughter of the state home minister (Devan). His family has no clear idea about the nature of Christy's activities before Christy's brother-in-law tells a lie about him as Christy finds about brother-in-law's relationship between rowdies and cases which he was arrested for sex-racketing . All these come as a shock to Varghese Mappila. Varghese Mappila kicks Christy out of their house believing the brother-in-law. Joji is having a relationship with Meenakshi. Her parents come to know about that. And while returning home she is being kidnapped. For regaining the daughter her father calls Christy. Christy finds that his brother-in-law was the person who kidnapped Meenakshi. He fights with his brother-in-law and safely brings Meenakshi back to her home. The next day, police finds that Christy's brother-in-law was killed. Police arrests Christy for the crime. Christy's friend (Sarath Kumar) brings him out of the jail. Meanwhile, a police officer (Suresh Gopi) marries Stella. Christy helps Joji to marry Meenakshi by bringing her out of her house. Both Christy and the police officer finds out the killer of their brother-in-law was Joji. Knowing that the killer was Joji, Christy tells the police officer to arrest him instead of his beloved brother Joji.Meawhile, the villains attack mappila.To take revenge of his fathers death, christy along with gopi and sarath kumar kill the villains.

The film begins with Captain Jacob Stephan, popularly known as Anakkattil Chackochi (Suresh Gopi) along with his friend Karimbanadan Sunny (Vijayakumar) going to Pollachi to meet Andipetti Veerapandi Thevar deal a spirit business. Thevar, though initially differs to negotiate, later after knowing that Chackochi is the son of Eappachan, his old friend agrees to help them. On way back to Kerala, they are stopped at check post by John Maruthnayagam, the police officer, who happened to be the colleague of Chackochi in army and helps them in leading back. Back at home, Anakattil Eappachan (M.G. Soman), his father is a famous liquor baron, who holds almost a monopoly over spirit business over Central and South Kerala. Eappachan is always at loggerheads with K.K Group (Kunnel-Kadayadi Group), his business rivals. Popularly known as Kadayadi siblings - Kadayadi Raghavan (N. F. Varghese), Kadayadi Thambi (Subair)and Kadayadi Baby (Spadikam George) enjoys a partnership with Kunnel Mathachan (Azeez) and his son Kunnel Outha (Sathar) in their business. Eappachan, who hails from a poor background has emerged in to such a position with his hard work and struggle and he had never forgotten his roots. But time to time, he had to clash with Kadayadi and Kunnel group over business. On the other side Chackochi is enjoying his life as a planter in the company of his buddies Hussein(Siddique) and Oommachan (Maniyanpilla Raju). He also shares a passionate relation with Gowri Parvathi (Nandini), the RDO (Revenue Divisional Officer) and of royal lineage. KK Group always lose to Eappachan but they never stopped their evil ways to eliminate him. The same time Eappachan agrees to gave his shares of profit to them in order to settle things peacefully. Still they are not satisfied, & in an attempt to regain the past glory in business, Kadayadi and Kunnel clans join with Excise minister Balakrishnan (T P Madhavan) and Eappachan's lieutenant Kattithara Paappi (Kollam Thulasi), thereby plans and kills Eappachan one day; Baby stabbing Eappachan by ambushing him from behind.

The train No.20 Madras Mail to Madras starts from Trivandrum Central. R.K. Nair (M.G. Soman), a Kollam-based businessman takes the first class coupe of the train to Madras with his wife Geetha (Jayabharathi) and daughter Devi (Suchitra) from Kollam Junction. Tony Kurushingal (Mohanlal), along with his friends Hitchcock Kanjikuzhi (Manianpilla Raju) and Kumbalam Hari (Jagadish) boards the same coach from Kottayam. Tony is the son of a wealthy businessman, Kurishinkal Kariyachan (Jagannatha Varma), Kanjikuzhi is a detective novelist and Hari is an young politician. The three of them are going to Madras for seeing a cricket match and to make attempts to make Kanjikuzhi's novel Vaazhikuzhiyile Kolapathakam a film. All the three are heavily drunken while boarding the train. After entering the train and seeing Devi, Tony and friends make several attempts in getting a seat for Tony in the same coupe of Devi, with the help of TTE officer Nadar (Innocent) but with little success. While doing so Tony gets into heated arguments with RK Nair and Sunil (Ashokan), who has a reserved seat in the same coupe (from Ernakulam) as that of R.K. Nair. Actor Mammootty boards the train from Thrissur and gets into the same coach. Nadar leaves the train at Palakkad after giving company with Tony and gang and the new TTE Chokalingam a.k.a. Choki (Jagathy Sreekumar) enters the train. Tony and his friends visit Mammootty in his coupe and soon become friends with him. Meanwhile Tony tries to flirt with Devi while she returns from the toilet, which causes Tony to land in trouble with R.K Nair but Mammootty cools the scene. All goes to sleep late night.

Ex-underworld don Zakkir Ali Hussein (Mohanlal), after giving up violence, is settled peacefully in the suburbs of Kochi. It was under the strong influence of his foster father, Bappu Haji Mustafa (Anupam Kher), that he left Mumbai. An unsuccessful assassination attempt on Haji Mustafa in Mumbai by Raman Naik, an underworld don ignites old wounds in Zakir. He, despite repeated pleas from Haji Mustafa and Ilanthaloor Rama Varma (Babu Namboothiri), a father like figure, sets out to Mumbai along with his trusted lieutenant Hamid Plavilakandi Mather, alias Malayalees (Cochin Haneefa). With the help of his friend Arjun (Biju Menon), Zakeer kills down Raman Naik and reaches back in Kochi. On his way back, at Kochi, he meets up with Maya Mary Kurien (Aishwarya), Asst. Commissioner of Police, who slowly starts developing a crush on him. Zakir Hussein is visited by Balaraman (Shammi Thilakan), a liquor baron and ex-MP, who warns Zakkir of dire consequences if he continues to interfere in the Mumbai crime world. He also attempts to woo Zakir, but the latter refuses to bow down, sending strong warning to Balaraman and his group. Balaraman, along with Devadevan Nambiar, alias DD (Vijayaraghavan), and Arun Naik, the brother of Raman Naik in Mumbai, is planning to finish off Zakir Hussein and Haji Mustafa to regain the lost turf in Mumbai. They are supported by Lahayil Vakkachan (N. F. Varghese), the tainted state home minister. Joseph Madachery, the IG of police conducts a raid at Haji Mustafa's poor home on behalf of Vakachan, and beats up Rama Varma Thirumulpad brutally, but the sudden arrival of Zakir saves him. Joseph is severely beaten by Zakir in full public presence, which infuriates Balaraman and DD, who try to demoralize Zakir by publishing fabricated stories about his relationship with ACP Maya Kurein and inmates of Haji Mustafa's poor home. Lahayil Vakachan tries to create a truce between Zakir and Balaraman, but fails miserably. This leads to a series of problems, including the arrest of Jaganathan, a close buddy of Zakir, on false narcotic drug charges. Jaganathan is killed in police custody. Balaraman and DD kill Rama Varma Thirumulpad, which prompts Zakir to take the law in his own hands. At a public gathering while addressing thousands of party workers, Zakir Hussein enters by duping police and kills Balaraman, DD and Lahayil Vakkachan.

The film, which has an intriguing storyline, revolves around two men - Tomy Eeppan Devassy and Sreekumar. Jayaram plays Sreekumar, a character who does all the domestic work expected from a wife in normal course. Into this peaceful world enters Tomy (Suresh Gopi) disrupting the domestic bliss and bringing out an unexpected twist. With his arrival everything goes haywire in Sreekumar’s life and he reaches a position where he can no longer be with his family. The central character of the film is a spiritual leader played by Nedumudi Venu who has devotees all around the world and who received a telephoned death threat. He reports the incident to Police Superintendent Haridas Damodaran (Mammootty) who initiates an investigation into the source of the threat. In the meantime, other important people are being murdered; the investigation later reveals that all of the victims were college classmates. Police arrest a suspect named "Christy" (Suresh Gopi) on murder charges. Proving whether Christy or an unknown perpetrator is the culprit forms the basis of the rest of the investigation.

A hangman is brought to central jail to hang Hyder Marakkar (Tiger Prabhakar), a notorious criminal with terror links, but he is killed in a road accident. DIG Marar (Janardhanan) smells foul play and arrives at Kamakshipuram along with Jose Nariman (Suresh Gopi), a smart young police officer, to meet Narasimha Mannadiar (Mammootty), a revered village lord and member of the royal family who had once ruled the hamlet. A new batch of trainees arrives at the army training center (SAT) situated near border in Kashmir. Their trainer is Major Nair Saab (Mammootty) who is a man known for his hard-and-fast training strategies. The movie is treated with humour arising from the intense training of the guys. Venu (Mohanlal) is a high-profile news cameraman working in Reuters. He graduated from a premier film institute but preferred to shoot news rather than the manipulated visuals for movies. He is mostly based in Delhi but has come to Kochi to appear for a case in which he is involved. He is assigned to cover a case involving a local politician where he gets to meets Renuka (Amala Paul).
