The plot of the film is a retelling of story of Joan of Arc set in a hospital. The musical character of the film is operatic, with the characters speaking entirely in song, with two main characters being dubbed by singers.
Synopsis
Johanna, une jeune toxicomane, tombe dans un profond coma après un accident. Les médecins réussissent à la sauver par miracle. Touchée par la grâce, Johanna guérit les patients en offrant son corps. Le médecin-chef est frustré par le refus continuel de Johanna de s'offrir à lui et s'allie contre elle avec les autorités de l'hôpital, mais les patients reconnaissants unissent leurs forces pour la protéger.Actors

Dans le delta du Danube en Roumanie, un homme taciturne revient dans son village natal après une longue absence. Il retrouve sa mère qui lui présente sa jeune sœur dont il ne connaissait pas l'existence. L'homme part sur le fleuve dans la cabane abandonnée de son père afin d'y construire sa maison sur l'eau, loin de toute civilisation, avec l'argent qu'il a gagné en Europe occidentale. Sa sœur harcelée par le compagnon de sa mère, décide de quitter sa maison et de rejoindre son mystérieux frère. Ensemble, ils construisent planche par planche une maison sur pilotis et se découvrent malgré le peu de discussions qu'ils échangent. Leur attirance réciproque impulsive les rapproche immanquablement, ce qui suscite ragots et haines de la part des habitants du village.

Upset at Miley, Lilly accidentally tells Oswald that Hannah is from a place called Crowley Corners, Tennessee, not realizing that he is a journalist.

The basic plot remains the same as in the stage play and the 1936 film version. When the Cotton Blossom, Cap'n Andy Hawks's show boat, arrives in a Mississippi town to give a performance, a fistfight breaks out between leading man Steve Baker (Robert Sterling), and Pete (Leif Erickson), the boat's engineer who has been making passes at Steve's wife, leading lady Julie La Verne (Ava Gardner). But Cap'n Andy (Joe E. Brown) pretends to the assembled crowd that the two were really previewing a scene from one of the boat's melodramas. But Pete knows a dark secret about Julie, and he runs off to tell the local sheriff.
