Shankar's banner S Pictures and the story was based on the college campus featuring Tamannaah and debutant, Akil. Audio was released under Shankar's own audio company S Musics; music was scored by Joshua Sridhar and lyrics were written by Na. Muthukumar. The film was dubbed in Telugu language as Kalasala.
Synopsis
The film begins with group of students clearing weeds near a roadside tree. The scene flashes back a few years earlier in a bus with a lot of college students heading towards Government Arts College in a small town. A set — Muthuchelvan, Kayalvizhi, Adhilakshmi, Nagarani, Albert, Kaamatchinathan, Salima, Iyanar — are introduced as friends since high school. There is a small build up to the introduction of the hero (Muthu played by newcomer Akil), who is part and parcel of the circle. All are studying in the same class. They enter into the college for the first time.Actors

The story is narrated through flashbacks. Velu (Sri), a teenager, works in a roadside shop. He meets Jyothi (Urmila Mahanta), who is a maidservant at a few of the nearby apartments. Velu falls in love with Jyothi. Aarthy (Manisha Yadav) lives in one of the apartment buildings. Dinesh (Mithun Murali) is a student who resides in the same building. Dinesh is a spoilt brat. As luck would have it, Aarthy falls for him without knowing his true intentions. Dinesh too is attracted to Aarthy. He seizes the opportunity and shoots video clips of her private moments on his mobile phone and even circulates them among his friends via MMS. When Aarthy finds out, she is aghast and threatens to approach the police. An angry Dinesh tries to murder Aarthy, but Jyothi intervenes accidentally and saves her. She sustains serious injuries in the process. The movie picks up speed as the corrupt Police Inspector Kumaravel (Muthuraman) begins investigations.

Murugan (Bharath) is a diligent scooter mechanic in Madurai and life goes on smoothly for the young man until a rich student Aishwarya (Sandhya) sets eyes on him. The infatuation reaches a dangerous level when she coaxes Murugan to take her from the constraint of her family, who have other plans about her future. The naïve Murugan hesitantly yields to her charm and the two run away to Chennai. Murugan's friend Stephen (Sukumar) helps them in their hour of crisis and the lovers unite in marriage. But Sandhya's family dotes on her and is not going to give up so easily. The family tracks down the couple and eventually separates them after knowing that Murugan is a low caste. Aishwarya agrees to marry another man to save Murugan's life after he is being beaten by her father. While she believes this decision is best and moves on with her life, she one day (while on the road with her husband and daughter) runs into Murugan who has suffered permanent brain damage. Knowing that she made a mistake and not knowing how to undo the sins of her father, the movie ends with Aishwarya and her husband deciding to take care of Murugan.

Thiyagu (Vikram), a Medical College Student, leads a gang of four to abduct corrupt politicians and bureaucrats who use the loophole in law to enjoy their prison term in hospitals or guest houses. Deiva (Anitha), a school girl and daughter of Sandana pandian (Nassar), a police officer on the trail of the mysterious gang, has a crush on Thiyagu. She is not aware of his real identity. The reason for Thiyagu to take up illegal activities is out of frustration. His collegemate Kavitha (Jayaseal) commits suicide when she doesn't get any support from him in her effort to expose a drug sale racket in the medical college. This shocked him and spurred him into taking law into his own hands. Nabbed by Sandana pandian and hauled before the special court, Thiyagu reveals the crimes committed by those he had kidnapped. He offers to free them if they are sentenced to life imprisonment. When the judges refuses, the public storm the court. In the melee, Sandana pandian lets the gang members go scot free along with his daughter.

Rocket Raja (Karthi) is a small-time thief who steals anything he comes across. With his partner Kaatu poochi (Santhanam) he enjoys life to its fullest and even falls for the beautiful Swetha (Tamannaah). However, his life changes when a small girl Divya Rathinavel (Baby Rakshana)ends up in his care; he looks exactly like her father Rathniavel Pandian IPS (Karthi). As Raja discovers the girl's past, it is revealed that Rathinavel Pandian is an honest policeman who is a nightmare to criminals, but that one gang of criminals in the village of Devi pattnam are intent on killing him and his daughter because he killed the son of a prominent criminal, who also sexually abused women. Rathinavel Pandian's colleagues put Divya in Rocket Raja's care so that the criminals cannot track her. Rathinavel Pandian is on the verge of death following a gunshot to his head. At first Raja is angry with the little girl and breaks her tape recorder. Divya is happy and hugs him, after he repairs it. Rathinavel Pandian is intent on fighting back. Unfortunately, he dies following a battle with several criminals who had been chasing Raja and Divya. From police officers,he realizes that Pandian was an honest and courageous police officer who stood against Babuji and his family who had cruelly ruled a village. Pandyan even manages to kill his son and stops their criminal acts. Pandyan manages to fail his brother but he gets shot when he tried to save a child.Upon seeing his courage, Rocket Raja (with the help of Rathinavel Pandian’s colleagues) steps into Rathinavel Pandian's shoes and finishes his unfinished work as he himself is a thug and destroys all their properties with the help of kaatu poochi in a hilarious way.He also kills his brother and also takes on the responsibility of taking care of Divya, with the help of Swetha.

Appalaraju (Sunil) is a film lover and he watches films regularly at Rambha Theatre in Amalapuram in a critical way and wonders why the directors are bringing out such films and his life ambition is to direct a film better than all the established directors. He leaves for Hyderabad and stays in his friend"s (Satyam Rajesh) house, with his script titled Nayaki. Balu Mahendra (Naga Chaitanya) is always the top ranker in his college. Mahalakshmi (Tamanna), his cousin comes to Balu’s house to continue her studies. She is in awe of her Mr. Perfect 'Bava' and takes his help to achieve big in studies. Surprisingly, she surpasses him and becomes the first ranker. Balu gets deeply hurt by this and he resorts to cunning ways to deviate Mahalakshmi. But to his surprise Ajith (Anand) stands first this time. Meanwhile Mahalakshmi's father brings her a marriage proposal, but she doesn’t want to marry him. Balu and Mahalakshmi compromise by agreeing to help each other. Balu helps her in getting the proposal canceled and Mahalakshmi starts deviating Ajith from studies for the sake of Balu, but Balu gets tempted to her in bathroom. When the couple is heading to fall in love, Mahalakshmi unknowingly hurts the ego of Balu and they get separated.
