Synopsis
Bhoominathan (Ramesh Pisharody) keeps big aspirations in his life. His dreams are all revolving around a property in the city, which he inherited. Bhoominathan finds that making a tourist resort in the land, is the best possible business which can bring him big returns. He starts to realise his plans to build a resort by digging down for making a good basement. And he finds to his astonishment, the archaic remnants of a ship.Actors

The story is about Thilakan and his two sons, one of them blind, Unni (Sreenivasan), and the other one deaf, Balan (Mukesh). The story takes a turn when the sons marry and their in-laws try to steal the family money. Krishnankutty (Jagathy) is the clever but honest caretaker for the deaf and blind siblings who is constantly at odds with their in-laws. The father (Thilakan), carries the burden of sorting things out.

The film starts by displaying an antic of Keshavan (Thilakan) who is an inmate of the Kakkanad Mental Hospital. Two other inmates are Benny (Mukesh) and Krishnankutty (Jagathy Sreekumar), along with the female inmate played by Philomena. The late Hakeem Rawther too plays as an inmate in a cameo role. By profession Benny is an artist, Krishnankutty is an auto-mechanic and Keshavan had retired from military service. The trio chance to come across a newspaper report that the Hindi film star Amitabh Bachchan is visiting Ernakulam City for film shooting, which is near the place they stay. They are soon joined by Venu (Siddique), acting as the brother of Balan (N.N.Balakrishnan) who takes him to the mental hospital. Venu is a good singer but suffers from a compulsive obsession to singing.

Thilakan is a worker at a factory and his family consists of his wife(Kaviyoor Ponnamma), his dad(Krishnan Kutty Nair)and 4 children(2 sons and 2 daughters).Elder son(Balachandramenon) is trying hard to establish himself in Kerala after having had strong will to stay in Kerala rather than going abroad. Second son(Jagadeesh)is looking for a Government job. Balachandramenon finally starts a telephone booth and is inaugurated by Circle Inspector(Jagathi Sreekumar, which turns out to be an evergreen comedy scene in Malayalam. Thilakan however wants Jagadeesh to look out for better prospects in the interim of his test results. Jagadeesh also shows some plans to start a business of his own. Once he and Thilakan travelling to Mangalore for a job need of Jagadish, meets up with an accident when the lorry they were travelling fell into a river. Jagadeesh escapes and Thilakan is not found. He is believed to be killed in the accident. Thilakan, is an insurance holder for a huge amount and his sons make arrangements to claim it stating that their father is killed in the accident. Thilakan's boss(Shankaradi), knowing that Thilakan's family is getting a huge amount, tries to interfere with a fraud story. With the papers being arranged for insurance claim, Thilakan surprisingly returns home alive after being in an Ayurvedic Heritage home under treatment nursing his injuries of accident. His return, however does not please his sons, Jagadeesh in special, who by then had laid some business plans eyeing at his father's insurance money. They force Thilakan to stay home enclosed in a room without roaming outside so as to claim the insurance amount. Thilakan's return is witnessed by his neighbor(Innocent) who believes that its his ghost and he turns psychic. Thilakan, unable to bear the humiliation of being locked up in the house and seeing that his sons care money more than him, finally decides to leave home one night. He is accompanied by Kaviyoor Ponnamma who asks him whether he is leaving her alone behind. The climax scene shows Thilakan and Kaviyoor Ponnamma accompanied by Krishnan Kutty Nair also and the 3 travelling away from their children to lead a new life.

Anjooran (N. N. Pillai), and his four sons Balaraman (Thilakan), Swaminathan (Innocent), Premachandran (Bheeman Raghu) and Ramabhadran (Mukesh) are in severe enmity with the Anappara family. Anjooran's bitter hatred toward Anappara Achamma (Philomina) stems from events in the past, when the men of Anappara abducted Balaraman's fiancée and forced her to marry the eldest son of Achamma. The resulting series of events saw Anjooran's wife being killed, and him being sent to jail for avenging her by murdering Achamma's husband. Balan Mash (Mammootty) is an art teacher who lives in a tiny hamlet in Kerala.
