Uma (Ambika) finds a job in a college library after impressed Vijay (Vijayakanth), a college student, who becomes the school leader. Uma's father kills her stepmother and commits suicide by letting her and his three children alone. Ramadasaradan (Visu) joins the college for a mysterious reason which only Uma knows. Ramadasaradan links secretly Vijay and Uma by writing wrong relation between them so Uma is fired. When Vijay goes to her house, he sees a photo of Uma with her husband. The college watchman tells to Vijay the truth and Vijay asks to Ramadasaradan why he did it. Visu tells him that her husband is dead and he was her father-in-law. His son Deepak (Karthik) a heart patient got married to Uma. Deepak died at his wedding night, Uma became a widow and she quit his house but Ramadasaradan challenged her to find a husband. Ramadasaradan and Vijay try to make accept her for the marriage in many ways. Finally, she gets married with Vijay.

Manju (Revathi) is an outspoken woman and she works in a small company. She lives with her father Narayana Moorthy (Visu) who tries to reform the people as much as possible. Belonging to a middle class family, she cannot provide a dowry for the potential grooms. One day, Manju comes across an innovative advertisement : a groom is looking for a bride without any dowries. The groom is Vasudevan (Raja) who seems to be the perfect future husband. When Manju and Narayana Moorthy meet his family, Narayana Moorthy is very shocked. Vasudevan's father Ramamoorthy (Nagesh) became mentally ill when his business failed, his sister Gayathri (Seetha) became mantally ill when someone raped her, his brother Bhaskar (Ramesh Aravind) is a drunkard and his mother (Annapoorna) is an asthma patient. Finally, Manju and Vasudevan get married. Vasudevan's family was in fact acting, they are perfectly all right but they are scared of something. The truth is that Vasudevan was already married to Uma (Saranya Ponvannan). What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Chithambaram(S.Ve.Shekar),a good hearted simpleton from a rich family based in karaikudi is in love with his cousin Uma(Ilavarasi).Uma is a well educated girl and in love with Arun(Arun Pandian), her collegemate. when chithambaram's parents speak to uma's parents about their(chithambaram and uma) marriage,uma's mother insults chithambaram for his stupidity.so,chithambaram sets to find a job and earn money so that he can ask uma's hand for marriage with respect.But what ensues is a series of unexpected twists and turns for chithambaram as he is wrongly accused of smuggling,burglary and murder of a young woman all done in the same night of his first job offer by a wealthy and respectable man.And the impossibility of him having committed all three crimes gives him the benefit of doubt by the police who seeks the assistance of beemarao(visu),a CID inspector.Beemarao is threatened by goons on his arrival to karaikudi(the story is set in karaikudi and nearby localities) and he has his first doubt of someone else's hand in the crimes.he ventures upon finding the real criminals behind the mishappenings along with arun through clever deduction and effort. In the end what turns out to be another surprise is the identity of criminal himself.
