Aalavanthan (Sivaji Ganesan) is a graduate who works hard for the poor farmers in his village and opposes the Zamindar Azhagu Singam (S. V. Ramadas) rule . Aalavanthan is aided by his close friend Muthuvel (K. A. Thangavelu), a social activist-journalist. In turn, Muthu's father Nallamuthu Naicker (T. S. Balaiah) is an land agent who supports the Zamindar. Muthuvel loves an uneducated village belle Thangalakshmi (T. P. Muthulakshmi), marries her and moves out as he does not like his father's bad deeds. There will be many occasions where her illiteracy is the highlight comedy of this movie.

In the opening sequence, jailed former labor leader Nataraj (M. G. Ramachandran) is telling his cellmates about the suffering his family endured as a result of uncle Ponnambalam (K. Thai Sollai Thattathe highlights the values of a mothers teaching and what wrong can happen if a child goes against his mother. Naveen Kumar who hungers for a promotion wants to take charge of this affair. Keerthi and Naveen Kumar finally fight, and the matter is taken up in court. Keerthi hires the lawyer Chaturvedi (Sivaji Ganesan), a senior lawyer who has never lost a case. Later, Chaturvedi has a heart attack and is taken care by the doctor Mona. He really likes the way she took care of him and he now considered her like his own daughter. The doctors Rajasekhar (Sarath Babu) and Mona (Deepika Chikhalia) suspect the hospital running by the doctor Johnson (Nassar) for doing illegal activities. Rajasekhar is later killed by someone, the presumed guilty is Mona according to the fingerprint on the murder weapon. Keerthi and Chaturvedi come to her rescue.
