Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi (English: Something Sour, something Sweet) is a 2001 Indian film directed by Rahul Rawail and starring Kajol in a double role as two estranged identical twins. The storyline follows the general theme of its Hollywood counterpart The Parent Trap, which is based on the novel Lottie and Lisa, but with the added melodrama and slight-changed storyline of a Bollywood movie. The film also stars Sunil Shetty, Rishi Kapoor, Rati Agnihotri and Pooja Batra. This is the second time that Kajol played a dual role after Dushman.
Synopsis
Raj Khanna (Rishi Kapoor) is a wealthy businessman who lives with his wife Archana (Rati Agnihotri), stepsister Devyani (Mita Vasisht), her spouse, and her son Teddy, in a mansion. Raj and Archana's lives are marred by marital discord, until they separate. Shortly before separating, Archana gives birth to identical twins: one of these is taken by Devyani and handed to Raj without Archana's knowledge. This infant becomes an embittered young woman sentimentially named Sweety (Kajol), and Raj becomes a helpless alcoholic. Archana has moved to London with the other daughter, Tina (Kajol). In contrast to Sweety's ferocity, Tina is meek, compassionate, sympathetic, and demure. Each year, Archana buys two identical presents, gives one to Tina on her birthday, and locks the other into a closet to symbolize giving to Sweety, whom she believes is dead.Actors

Vijay Agnihotri (Shah Rukh Khan) comes from a wealthy family and is very spoiled as well as psychopathic. He meets Shivani (Madhuri Dixit) in a disco club. Karan (Saif Ali Khan) is a cartoonist and a self-styled ladies' man. His daily comic, named "Hum Tum," explores the battle of stereotypical male/female behavior. Zooni Ali Beg (Kajol) is a blind Kashmiri girl who travels without her parents for the first time with a dance to Delhi to perform in a ceremony for Republic Day. On her journey, she meets Rehan Qadri (Aamir Khan), a Casanova tour guide who flirts with her. Although her friends warn Zooni about him, she cannot resist falling in love. On her last night in Delhi, Rehan and Zooni spend the night together and end up in bed. As Zooni is leaving the next day on a train, Rehan comes in and takes her away with him. Her parents arrive in Delhi to marry them. Zooni has a procedure done that helps her see again, but when she comes out of surgery, she finds out that Rehan was killed in a bomb blast in the city, and is heartbroken. She is taken to the hospital mortuary, and told to identify his body. As Zooni cannot see any body there, she is quickly made aware of the sweater that Rehan was wearing which she knitted for him covered in blood and soot.

Yashvardhan "Yash" Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) is a rich businessman, living in India with his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) and two sons Rahul and Rohan. Rahul is the elder son and was adopted by Yash and Nandini at birth; this is known to everyone in the Raichand household, except Rohan. Yash learns of the marriage and disowns Rahul; whereupon Nandini and Rahul share a tearful goodbye. Nandini sends Sayeeda (Farida Jalal), Rahul and Rohan's nanny, to watch over him. Rahul visits Rohan in the Boarding School and begs of Rohan never to ask where he went or why he left, and asks that he take care of Nandini.

Twenty years ago Angar Chand (Amrish Puri) lived a wealthy lifestyle in a small town in India along with his wife, Parvati, and four sons, Balram (Jackie Shroff), Kishan (Paresh Rawal), Shakti (Arbaaz Khan) and Jai (Akshaye Khanna). Since Balram is of marriageable age, he arranges his marriage with the daughter of Laxmi Devi (Laxmi), who opposes this marriage. During the wedding ceremony, Laxmi Devi and her sons, Surajbhan, and Pratap forcibly take away their sister and accidentally kill Parvati. They subsequently get their sister married to Kashinath (Shakti Kapoor). An enraged Angar hacks Laxmi's husband to death, is arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison. When he returns he makes it clear that women will not be permitted in his house, posting a sign on the front gate, and forbids his sons to ever marry.
