All characters in the movie were named after the original names of the actors. Sudhakar (Sudhakar) is a poor young man desperately looking for work. One day he has a skirmish with Radhika (Raadhika Sarathkumar), a rich girl and lone daughter of a businessman Selladurai, in a telephone booth. Radhika finds out that Sudhakar is searching for a job from his diary that he leaves at the booth. She employs him in her father's firm as a manager and soon they mutually fall in love. Radhika's class-conscious father initially opposes but later reluctantly agrees to have them married. However things take a turn when his business friend Sivaraman, to whom he owes a lot of favours, visits him and reminds him of his old promise to get Radhika married to Sivaraman's son Vijayan. And soon after Sudhakar goes missing with five lakhs of the office cash on his way to Bombay and is presumed to have absconded. Rosy (Meena), a limb and left arm paralyzed girl child with weak cardiac health, lives at an orphanage (Karunai Illam) alongside with other orphan children that were dumped by their parents forsaking due to disabilities or reasons having no parents and or for other reasons. The fact that she had been quit by her parents for untold reasons since her birth and her disability to be like other normal children attributes to her rudeness being uncaring and ignorant towards anyone. She even ill treats all her caretakers on the orphanage which turmoils to hatefulness on her by almost all other orphanage workers except the kind mother superior who heads the karunai Illam and is always kind to everyone and tries to tether the fact of love and affection to everyone regardless of ones ages. It is in the beginning of the movie, that is shown that mother superior consults doctors but for what or for whom or why isn't shown. (Ambika) arrives to karunai illam as a babysitting caretaking woman, who also does the role of a mother. She is assigned to take care of rosy by mother superior. The film is all about three friends who fall for the same girl, narrated as a comedy. Palanisamy and his two friends have no job other than going behind girls. The story focuses on five friends Prabu, Elango, Sundar, Indra and Priya at the Madras Institute of Technology, who want to remain friends throughout their lifespan and hope to join the same company after graduation. During a vacation Elango, goes home where he is forced to get married to his rustic cousin, Eshwari by his tough disciplinarian father. Once back to college he hides the fact about his marriage to his friends but later the marriage becomes public when relatives of Eshwari come to visit Elango. While their dream to work together becomes true, Elango alone gets a transfer to Bombay. The friends fight but later reunites back. Before Elango goes Bombay the friends force him to visit his wife and put him on a train. But Elango manages to get off the train and from there loses touch with his friends and family in the village.
