Add to a movie listLike the Leaves (Italian:Come le foglie) is a 1935 Italian drama film directed by Mario Camerini and starring Isa Miranda, Mimi Aylmer and Nino Besozzi. It was based on a play by Giuseppe Giacosa. The film radically altered the image of Miranda from her previous film Everybody's Woman (1934) in which she had played a glamorous film star. In this case she appeared as a modest middle-class woman. Miranda was widely praised for her performance, further enhancing her status as the leading Italian actress.

The late nineteenth century: Count d'Origo, a notorious roué, spots an attractive woman. Hoping to seduce her, he attempts to find out who she is. In fact she is Geraldine, a practiced courtesan. However, the local mayor tells the Count that she is Ottavia, the wife of his nephew, Enrico, a struggling young musician. Enrico is hoping to stage his newly completed opera. With the Count's support he will get the backing he needs. His uncle hopes to help Enrico by employing Geraldine to impersonate Ottavia, so she can be "seduced". Before she submits, Geraldine will extract a promise from the Count to stage her "husband"'s opera. Geraldine, Ottavia and Enrico agree to go along with the plot. However, as Enrico introduces Geraldine to the eager Count he becomes increasingly jealous as the Count moves in. Eventually he forces the Count to leave after becoming angered by his advances. Charmed by his protectiveness, Geraldine asks him to pretend she is really his wife for one night, so that she can live her dream of having a normal life with a devoted husband.

Adriana et sa fille sont abandonnées par Diego, un noble chez lequel elle était en service et qui avait abusé d'elle. Pour survivre elle travaille dans un salon de coiffure. Mario le comptable tombe amoureux d'elle, mais Adriana honteuse de sa condition le repousse. Diego la rencontre inopinément au salon, lui annonce qu'il va se marier et lui propose néanmoins de devenir sa maîtresse. Mario, entendant la conversation, outré et jaloux se bat avec Diego. The story focuses on Jane Hudson (Katharine Hepburn), a single, middle-aged elementary school secretary (she refers to her position as "a fancy secretary") from Akron, Ohio. À la pension Muche, Topaze est un instituteur chahuté par ses élèves qui exploitent sa naïveté. Il enseigne et applique rigoureusement ces principes, refusant d'augmenter les notes d'un élève contre rétribution pour contenter une mère influente dans la pension, se mettant ainsi à dos le directeur. Cela contrarie aussi grandement ses espoirs d'avenir avec Ernestine, la fille du directeur dont il est secrètement amoureux. Appliquant une méthode de séduction d'Ernestine désastreuse conseillée maladroitement par un collègue, il déclenche un scandale qui le fait licencier sur-le-champ.
