Lion's Den (Spanish: Leonera) is a 2008 Argentine drama film directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Pablo Trapero. Addressing motherhood within the prison system, it stars Martina Gusmán, Elli Medeiros and Rodrigo Santoro.
It was Argentina's official submission for the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Synopsis
Julia, enceinte de quelques semaines, découvre chez elle le corps ensanglanté de deux hommes. Incapable de se souvenir du meurtre, elle est incarcérée dans une prison pour jeunes mères. Condamnée, Julia sait qu'elle ne pourra garder son fils près d'elle que 4 ans. Un jour, la mère de Julia vient emmener le garçon. bouleversée par cette séparation, elle tentera tout pour le récupérer.Actors

Sosa is a lawyer recently expelled from the bar association who works as an ambulance chaser - known as "carancho" in Argentina - touring the emergency departments of the public hospitals and the police stations, in search of potential clients for his barely legal law firm. One night he meets Luján, a young doctor recently arrived from the provinces trying to get an internship as a surgeon. The two start a romantic relationship that is threatened when Sosa breaks his bond with his corrupt boss. When Sosa is about to get back his attorney registration, and while making amends for his bad deeds, he and Luján are attacked by former partners of the firm, initiating an escalation of violence.

Linda Blair of The Exorcist stars as Carol Henderson, an immature and naive teenager who is sentenced to 18 months in a women's prison after killing a man by accident after driving drunk. Tonia (Krystyna Janda) is a cabaret singer in post-World War II Poland towards the end of the life of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. After she performs for soldiers, she is arrested without being told why, and placed in a political military prison to be interrogated. Over a course of some years, she is humiliated and tortured by prison officials into confessing to crimes she did not commit. After failing to sign a document detailing a false confession, she is taken to the prison shower block and locked into a small cage between the floors. The water is turned on and the room is slowly flooded. She is released at the last moment and told to sign the confession form again, which she continues to refuse to do. While in prison, she demands that she sees her husband. One day he visits the prison, but is told by the officials of her alleged infidelities prior to her arrest, and he tells her that he doesn't want to see her again. She unsuccessfully attempts suicide. She develops a romantic relationship with an officer, one of the interrogating prison officials, whom she tells of the absurdity of the system he believes in. She becomes pregnant by him and, like other female inmates, is forced to give up her child for adoption, before eventually being released and reunited with her child. The officer secures her release and her ability to reclaim their child and then commits suicide.
