Love Marriage is a 1959 Bollywood film directed by Subodh Mukherjee. The film stars Dev Anand and Mala Sinha along with Helen.

Synopsis

Sunil Kumar (Dev Anand) is a star cricket player in his city of Jhansi and lives with his brother's family. Sunil's sister in Law, Uma and her little son have deep affection for him and keep up that Sunil is the reason for their happy family. Soon, Sunil leaves for Bombay to attend a job interview and there he rents a room to stay. The landlord's daughter Geeta (Mala Sinha) initially dislikes Sunil but after watching him play cricket, she falls in love with him. They soon get married and go back to Jhansi to live with Sunil's family. But their harmonious life undergoes problem when Sunil's behavior becomes wayward and everyone starts hating him.

Chandrashekhar (Shammi Kapoor), or Shekhar as he is called now, belongs to an aristocratic family, who believe laughter is a sign of belonging to the lower class, and as a result laughter is not encouraged in the household, run by Shekhar's domineering mother (Lalita Pawar). In this household the only one who dares to laugh and enjoy life is Shekhar's sister Mala (Shashikala), who also dares to love Jeevan (Anoop Kumar). Things change when their mother finds out about Mala's indiscretions, and asks Shekhar to take her away from their home, to distant and scenic Kashmir, for a while. She instructs Shekhar to get married to a girl from a princely family. When Shekhar and Mala go to Kashmir, they meet with beautiful Rajkumari (Saira Banu). And after being stranded with her for a few nights during a snowstorm, he realizes what he has been missing, and becomes a care-free man in love. This change is welcomed by Mala, but not by their mother. To make matters worse, Rajkumari does not belong to a princely family, and Shekhar knows that his mother will never approve of his marrying her.

A chance meeting between an Assistant Scientist, Shekar, and an established stage dancer and singer, Anjana, results in love. While Shekar has a mother who lives separately, Anjana has been orphaned at an early age. Shekar's mom approves of Anjana, and both get married. Anjana stops her involvement in dancing and singing, and both spent the next several months on relative harmony. Asha likes Puran's articles exposing corruption and black-marketing, and his articles on working women. She gets interested in meeting the writer. The two meet in her office at her place of work. While leaving, Puran manages to drop his papers, and they get jumbled up with the papers on Asha's desk. Her paycheck, which was lying on the desk, is picked up by Puran by mistake along with his own papers. She meets Puran again to get her check back.

Inspector Dinesh (Dev Anand) lives a middle-class lifestyle along with his mother in Bombay. On his 5th birthday his father leaves them never to return. Now Dinesh has grown up, is working for the Criminal Investigations Department and has been assigned to stop the circulation of fake currency notes. His investigations take him to Sunderdas, who is killed. He then masquerades as Social Worker Abdul Rashid to try and get some information from a jailed convict, Banwarilal, to no avail. Finally, he dons the disguise of wealthy Kunver Vijay Bahadur, rents a suite in Hotel Paris and befriends Manohar (Madan Puri) and several other gangsters. He gets himself arrested and lodged in the same cell as Banwarilal. From there both men break out and join Manohar and the rest of the gang. It is here Dinesh will find out the king-pin behind this racket but before he can do anything he will not only find himself confronting his past, but will be trapped in an underwater fortress along with his sweetheart, Press Report Renu (Madhubala).
