Synopsis
The daughter of wealthy and famous novelist Meg Swift, Mimi is a young woman who seems to have a perfect life. The opposite appears to be the case, as her deep love for playboy Alan Wythe remains unanswered. Despite her mother's newspaper artist friend Jimmy Kilmartin warnings of Alan's scandalous past revolving women, Mimi is determined to one day become Mrs. Wythe. However, another woman beats her to the title. Mimi is crushed when she finds out that Alan is marrying heiress Elizabeth Kent, but swallows her pride to serve as the bridesmaid.Actors

Malcolm Niles, un écrivain new-yorkais, apprécie une soirée romantique avec l'actrice Vivian Herford, jusqu'à ce que la mère de celle-ci arrive et parle mariage. Malgré ses efforts pour l'éviter, c'est à cause de Nancy qu'il rate une correspondance car il était en train de chercher les gants que la jeune femme avait oubliés. Il la retrouve à la porte de chez lui, car elle a découvert que non seulement George avait disparu mais qu'il n'étais pas comme elle le lui avait dit directeur de magasin. Comme elle n'a nulle part où aller, elle demande à Malcolm de l'aider à retrouver son fiancé. Il est sur le point de la jeter dehors mais, quand Vivian arrive, il lui dit qu'il est avec Nancy. Habitant chez Malcolm, Nancy prend une part de plus en plus importante dans la vie de ce dernier et dans celle de Robert. Malcolm commence à tomber amoureux d'elle, de même que Robert. Il le nie mais quand George réapparaît et réclame Nancy, il se bat avec lui. Malcolm finit par admettre qu'il l'aime et la demande en mariage. Peu après le mariage, Nancy et Malcolm s'embarquent pour l'Europe, mais elle réalise soudain qu'elle a oublié ses gants à terre, Malcolm court pour les retrouver mais ne peut revenir à temps au quai et voit le bateau s'éloigner.

Carlotta Lee, alias Charlie, est une vedette de Broadway, mais dont la carrière commence à décliner. Elle est la cible des critiques constantes, tant dans les journaux qu'à la radio, de Peter Lawrence. Peter, qui a grandi avec Charlie et qui est amoureux d'elle depuis longtemps, espère en fait que des réactions à ses critiques vont aider la carrière de l'actrice. Un jour, Pete apprend la mord accidentelle du laveur de vitre O'Toole, et il lance un appel à la radio pour aider les enfants d'O'Toole, Mike et Jake. Lorsqu'il entend cet appel, l'agent de Charlie, Jimmy Slattery, pense que si Charlie adoptait les orphelins, cela lui ferait une grande publicité, et il s'arrange en secret pour que les enfants soient amenés chez elle. Defense attorney Dwight Bradley Masen (Walter Pidgeon) is successful in seeking the acquittal of a young man, Rudi Walchek (Keefe Brasselle), accused of knifing to death the 19-year-old son of a local locksmith, but when Rudi lets a comment slip after the trial, Masen realizes he has defended a guilty man. Masen discovers that Rudi is also a member of a syndicate extorting money from the scared merchants in the locksmith's neighborhood. After unearthing new evidence, Masen tries to convince the D.A.
