Manam Virumbuthe Unnai is a 1999 Tamil romantic drama film directed by Sivachandran. The film features Prabhu, Meena, Karan and Rajiv Krishna in lead role. The film had musical score by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 20 October 1998 to positive reviews and did well.
Synopsis
Shanmugam (Prabhu), a widower, has two daughters Kavita (P. Shwetha) and Anita (Baby Ashwini). In fact, the children were abandoned and he has brought up them without they know that they were orphans. Kavita and Anita pressure him to see the photo of their mother Amudha, he describes the girl of his dreams to his friend Sabapathy (Dhamu) who then paints her portrait and Shanmugam shows them the portrait. By chance, the children see Priya (Meena), who looks like the woman in the portrait. Shanmugam, Kavita and Anita go to her home in the city.Actors

Rajakumaran (Prabhu) is the son of the village chief (Vijayakumar). Yuvaraj (Nassar) hates Rajakumaran and his village. Selvi (Meena Durairaj) and Vaidehi (Nadhiya) are in love with their cousin Rajakumaran but he chooses Vaidehi. Selvi decides to sacrifice her love, her father Selvaraj (Captain Raju) refuses to give his property to village people as promised and his only request is that Rajakumaran gets married with Selvi. Selvi convinced Rajakumaran to lie, he lies to her father and he gives his property. Vaidehi committed suicide and Rajakumaran reveals his lie. One day, some goons decide to put a bomb and Rajakumaran saves the village. The village thinks that the culprit was Thangaraj (Thyagu) because he wanted to revenge Rajakumaran after his lie. Angry, Thangaraj insults Rajakumaran's father in public and Rajakumaran's father died. Yuvaraj asks to Selvaraj and Thangaraj to marry Selvi, and they accept. The village was against the marriage. A man (R. V. Udayakumar) came and said that a deaf-mute girl, who learnt to read and to write, was the witness of Vaidehi's murder by Yuvaraj. On the marriage day, Yuvaraj cancelled the marriage and decided to humiliate Selvi. Rajakumaran saves her and he decides to marry her.

Prabhu, hailing from an orthodox Brahmin community gets a job with Calcutta Constructions as supervisor. Calcutta Company has been in efforts to restructure their land by vacating an illegal colony lying adjacent to its premises. Popularly known as Vietnam Colony, it is inhabited by mainly daily labourers. The company has been in efforts to demolish the colony for long time, but failed to do so. The colony is now under the rule a few hardcore criminals to whom the residents have to pay specific amount every week. Now, Prabhu is appointed by company to evacuate the colony, by dealing with these criminals. He is assisted by Goundamani. Both arrive in the colony under the disguise of professional writers who are planning to write a story on the life of colony residents. Upon arrival, both enter the house of Manorama in search of a house, but she mistakes them to have come to see her daughter Vineetha and calls Unni to bring tea and snacks. But after knowing about the goof happened, she lets them stay on the top floor of her house. Upon the advice of the House broker, Manorama believes that with time, her daughter might fall in love with Prabhu and might get married to this educated Brahmin guy. In the coming days, Prabhu befriends with various members of the colony and tries to read out their idea about vacating the colony. But he realizes that it is not an easy task to evacuate the people and thinks about different plans to be operated. From Manorama, Prabhu comes to know that the entire colony was owned by Nassar, a millionaire, who even gave up his mom for money. What happens next is rest of story.

Karthikeyan (Arjun) is a photographer-cum-editor working in Indian Express. Chitra (Meena) is a bank employee. Both reside in Navi Mumbai. Karthik meets Chitra while opening a bank account. While returning home, Karthik again meets her in a train. He offers his seat but Chitra does not want to accept it. During a train strike he invites her to travel in an auto to reduce expenses, but she declines. When Chitra hesitated to travel in the same train with Karthik, he became angry and explained that he talked to her because both are from same area and he says he will never talk to her anymore. Arivazhagan (Manoj) has grown up to be a rowdy because of the neglect and ill-treatment by the hands of his parents and his only aim in life is to be an irritant to his father. The entire family attends the marriage of Savitri (Richa) in Bangalore and when the groom disappears, Arivu offers to take his place. The marriage never happens but Savitri shows up at Arivu's house later, asking him to give her refuge. When he moves out of the house to take up residence with his friends, she follows him there too. Initially irritated by her, Arivu realises that he is gradually falling in love with her. Meanwhile, the friends learns that Savitri left her own surroundings just to get over the gruesome suicide of her close friend Nisha (Preetha), a victim of eve-teasing. Nisha's brother Kishore (karan) and her family are still haunted by her death and the brother promises to avenge on the person who was the cause of his sister's death. Who is responsible for Nisha's suicide, and will Arivu succeed on proposing his love towards Savitri forms the rest of the story.
