Synopsis
Thomas alias Thorappan Thoma (Mukesh) and Pathira Thankappan (Sreenivasan) are two petty thieves working under Kottayam Kochunni (Jagathi Sreekumar), a notorious thief wanted by police. One day, to financially support Athapady Anthru (Mamukkoya), his master, Kochunni plans a big robbery at a hotel suite along with his disciples. On the same day, three young sons of Vikraman (Rajan P. Dev), a mafia don arrives in Kochi. K.R (Prathapachandran) his business rival plans to shoot down the children of Vikraman on same night at their hotel suite. But after getting the news, they wait for the killer to enter their room, heavily armed. Both Thorappan Thoma and Pathira Thankappan enters the same suite, and is attacked by them. In a bid to escape both fights back. The commotion leads to chaos and police arrives. Thoma and Thankappan are trialed for killing the sons of Vikraman and is sentenced for five years in jail. Kochunni and Andru escapes from the scene. Two years after the incident, Thankappan gets parole and absconds. Thoma is granted parole, but has been assigned to find out Thankappan in two weeks. Kochunni now runs an automobile shop, where Andru is a worker under him. Thoma arrives at Kochunni's shop in search of money. He is assigned to hand over a car at Chennai. Unknowing that the car belongs to same Vikraman, Thoma sets for Chennai. In the meantime, the elder son of Vikraman is shot dead by KR. Vikraman suspects Thoma for this, who is now in Chennai. Accidentally he happens to meet Thankappan, who is now married and is living under a new name Shambhu Iyer. Both Thankappan and Thoma is now on run from police and Vikraman. Their chase and fight to prove innocence forms the rest of the story.Actors

The character 'Kuttichathan' is formed on the basis of the specialties of a deity popularly known as 'Chathan' who is being worshiped mainly in the south Indian state, Kerala. There are cruel magicians everywhere in the world. One of them is the Karimbhootham (black magician), who enslaved an invisible spirit with his magic spells, whom he calls Kuttichathan ("Little Ghost" in English and "Chhota Chetan" in Hindi). Two boys and a girl befriend Kuttichathan by accident and release him from the grip of the magician. They understand that this Chathan is friendly to kids and is a very good friend. Therefore, the girl promises to keep Kuttichathan in a house for two reasons: one, her father drinks too much, so she wants Chathan, who is a very good magician, to make him himself, as her mother has died, there is no one to control him; second, Chathan, being a small boy, also drinks a lot. He could drink all that her father drinks, thereby changing her father's attitude.

Shivasubrahmaniam (Maniyan Pillai Raju), an innocent bank employee is in love with Rohini (Lizzy), but is afraid to express her his love. His grandmother but wants him to be a Brahmachari and become a priest at the nearby temple. Rohini is working as an artist at the Keerikkad ballet troupe run by Keerikkad Chellappan Nair (Nedumudi Venu). As per the advice of Shankaran Pillai (Jagathi Sreekumar), the assistant of Chellapan Nair, Subru joins the ballet troupe to woo Rohini. She is attracted to his innocent and straight forward behavior and fells in love with him. One day, when missed her bus, Rohini asks a car driver a lift, and she is dropped at the ballet troupe office. Accidentally the car belongs to Suresh Menon (Shankar), a rich business tycoon of the area. Sankaran and Chellappan Nair mistakes her to be in love with Suresh Menon. Chellappan, to appease Suresh Menon offers heroine's role to Rohini and gives an increment. Subrahmaniam is suspended from bank for not attending office for long time. Due to certain misunderstandings, Rohini breaks up with him, hurting him deeply. Subru is also thrown out of the troupe by Chellappan Nair for not performing up to the mark. In the mean time Suresh Menon on knowing about Rohini and her claims of being his girl friend appears in front of her. Not knowing that he is original Suresh Menon, she takes his help in solving out the mess created at the ballet troupe. Suresh Menon solving out the mess and uniting Subru with Rohini forms the rest of the story.

Gopan (Mukesh), Kora (Jagadish) and Bhakthavalsan (Sreenivasan) are three college students who share same house along with Prem (Shankar), another classmate. While the trio are more interested in loafing their time by flirting with girls, Prem is more serious in his attitude towards life. On a usual encounter, the trio meets Major Nair (Nedumudi Venu), a retired man in his fifties, who but loves romancing young girls. After a series of ego clashes, Nair learns that the trio is trying to woo his daughter Minu (Lizy). Nair, enraged, challenges them to make his daughter fall for them. Accepting the challenge the trio start to make her fell for them. Minu, who seriously shows concern towards the handicapped people, falls in love with Prem, whom she thinks to be handicapped. Meanwhile, Nair bets with Govind (Sreenath), another street romeo, who is but married to a beautiful innocent girl (Menaka). Nair agrees that he would shave his head if Minu falls in love with anyone within 4 months. Govind says that he would shave his mustache to half if he loses the bet.

The story is about four thieves-turned-philanthropists, starting with the time they were thieves, how they meet together by chance and join forces, finally leading to a robbery attempt at a house that went awry but led to their reformation at the hands of the house owner who himself was a robber-turned-philanthropist. The thieves are played by Mukesh, Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar and Mamukkoya, and philanthropist by Thilakan. The plot also shows how Thilakan spurs them to rob the corrupt rich and give to the poor, in the mold of Robin Hood, portraying two such gutsy episodes; first bringing to book a treacherous money lender Sunny (played by Shivaji) and next an unscrupulous business man and drug-dealer Madhava Menon, played by Babu Namboothiri. The second episode culminates in the murder of an accomplice of Madhava Menon, Dr. Narendran, played by Kollam Thulasi, at the hand of one of the four heroes, but Thilakan owns up this murder so as to exonerate him and let the good work continue.

Nambiar (Rajan P Dev), a building contractor, is a die-hard atheist. However he is plagued by many a problem in his contracting business, particularly due to the conspiracies plotted by his competitor, Shankara Pillai (Janardhanan). Compelled by his wife Sudharma, who is devoted to God, and his children Pradeep and Sandeep (Jagadeesh and Kalabhavan Navas respectively) Nambiar consents to consult an astrologer Thanku Panikkar (M.S.Thrippunithura) to find if there is any supernatural cause behind their problems. Thanku Asan ascertains that there is an evil spirit residing in the bust of "Junior Mandrake" (in fact a bust in the shape of the antogonist in the movie) kept in their house. Nambiar had been entrusted to handover this bust to someone in the airport in India when he returned from Singapore, but no one had showed up to receive it. Thanku Panikkar prescribes the evil spirit can be got rid of only by presenting the bust to someone who may receive it "with pleasure", who in turn will be taken over by the evil spirit. Nambiar manages to present this bust to his adversary Shankara Pillai on his birthday party, and Thanku Panikkar is apparently proved right as the bad luck of Nambiar is now shifted to Shankara Pillai, also turning Nambiar into an ardent believer in God in the process.
